Toyota tacoma installation

I'm trying to install a century accel carseat for a 2 year old in the back outboard of my extended cab toyota tacoma truck. The rachet clicks on the seat belt were such that I couldn't get the seat tight enough and it would slide around. I put a piece of approx. 1" thick minicell (a very firm high quality closed cell foam) behind the car seat and now the seat appears to be locked in place securely and does not slide around. The foam cannot get loose either. The car seat manual has no guidance other than it says it is permissible to put a car seat cover or similar under the baby seat. Is the use of the foam generally acceptable?

Thick Materials not recommended under Front Facing Seats

I highly recommend you try a free inspection from a local technician. Please visit our "Free Carseat Inspection" link under the top banner to find one. They might be able to get it in tighter without any added materials.

Re: Toyota tacoma installation

I agree with Darren--see if you can find a cps technician locally to help you. Using items thicker than a thin sheet or non-slip mat is not recommended, since we don't know how they will affect the car seat or installation in a crash situation.

When you get the seat belt tight enough, does it not stay locked? I know that's a problem with some Camrys, but I don't know if it affects any other model Toyota. You may try pulling it as tight as you can, unbuckle it and feed it back into the retractor 1 or 2 clicks, then rebuckle it.
