Motorhome Renovation and Car Seat

Hi,

We are about to purchase a 1988 24 foot class A coachman classic motor home and will be renovating it. I have a 5 year old that has been rear facing in a diono radian until this month and is now front facing in it. She is 45 pounds.

Is there a way to safely have her ride in the camper? Would installing a seat behind the front seats in the center work? Installing it directly into the floor or frame rather than into a seat? We like the idea of everyone riding in it, but don't want to not be safe in order to do it. Are there ways to secure what would become projectiles in the back to a safe standard? We've been looking for a camper for years and finally found one in our price range in decent shape and just happens to be a motor home and unfortunately not a tow behind. If there is any customizing that can be done to make it safe and anyone has any tips it would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Britt

I don't know a safe way to travel in a motor home. My husband and I have a class C and we consider it a 2 person vehicle. Also, we know it will not do well in a crash. Please watch crash test videos of RVs.

Thanks for the reply. I have and I think I've convinced my husband that the best option is to have him drive the RV while I drive my daughter separately and we'll work towards getting a travel trailer eventually.

It's a difficult situation because the standards for RVs just don't exist like they do for passenger vehicles. There probably exist models that would be suitable for passengers in back or methods to renovate with adequate seating, but there is simply no way to know which brands, models or seats would even be able to pass the federal standards that apply to regular cars, trucks and SUVs.
