  • Buying in late November and December is the BEST time of the year to shop for deals. They still may have 2014s on the lot that are brand new as well as 2015s galore. Not many people buy in the holiday months for obvious reasons, so it's slow and they need sales to end the year.

Let me know if you have any other questions. Oh, make sure you know your credit worthiness before going in. That's another area they try to get more money by offering you a percentage point more in interest rate than you really qualified for and take that off the top before selling the loan to the bank you selected.
This is where you have to be willing to walk out the door. If lowest price is what you want, then negotiating with a "volume dealership" (i.e. they are known for selling the most cars) is where you need to really be in at this point. However, you should be aiming for a brand new EX model car in the ball park of $27-28.5k. That will be a great deal! If you want to add leather or a rear entertainment center you probably could spend anywhere from $30-32K if you pushed.
The way to get into that range is to know EXACTLY what you want (trim, color, accessories, etc) and shop Honda dealerships against each other. Since you are looking at a popular trend (EX-L is the most popular), you will have a larger selection to choose from...especially new. Go online, build and price you car multiple times selecting a different dealership each time to get a free quote. The Internet Manager will usually send you pretty close to invoice as the "come on in and let's make a deal" price. That's fine...but you don't have to go in yet. Reply by email saying you got a quote from such and such dealership for this price, and since you really like that dealership as it's closer to home for servicing and stuff, you would like to see if they can beat that price. You can keep this up if you want going back and forth between the two feeding them the same information to get them to lower...but eventually they will bottom out. Then you go in!
Welcome! Don't mind talking shop on buying cars at all...especially Odyssey's which we have purchased 3 new over the years.

If you are looking at the brand new 2015 Honda Odyssey EX without leather, then yes, you can get it for under $30,000. It stickers for $32,125 + destination fee (which is negotiable) and typically has about $4-5K in profit built into the asking price. There are three ranges of the price of a car starting from the most expensive...MSRP. Then we have Invoice price which is what the public thinks is the dealership's lowest price they can sell the car. Then lastly, we have "Dealer Holdback" price...which is usually $1-2K under that invoice price to allow for continued profit even if they sell it for invoice. This is the area you need to be playing in...below the invoice line.
Hi! Hope it's ok to message you but from cruising the forums it looks like you are the go-to person for buying vehicles! We are in the market for a new or newish minivan. I think we're down to the Odyssey. Any tips on negotiating the best deal? We've never bought a new vehicle from a dealership before. I want the EX model (must have sliding doors!) But can I get this for under $30000? I'm in Knoxville TN if that helps. Thanks!
