SOooooo, we were driving to the store today, and I looked back to see that my son had undone the chest clip and had his arms completely out of the shoulder straps and was leaning ahead. I had almost had a heart attack!! We normally have him rear facing in the Radian XT, but took my husbands car with the Nautilus. I think he will now, probably undo the Radian XT chest clip too now. Is there anything I can do? He is too young to reason with him, is there another seat that has a harder to undo chest clip? I really dont want to give up the Nautilus, but I will, if its for his safety.

Please help me!!

TIA!

My 4 year old has been known to undo his chest clip, I think just more because he knows how, than he's trying to get out.

I've told him that he needs it done up properly to be safe. And if he undoes it, I will stop the car. And that we'd get in alot of trouble if the police saw that it was undone.

It's frustrating, hopefully it won't last long!
Good luck!

A lot of people use the trick of pulling over to the side of the road (in a safe spot, of course) and stopping the car, then explaining to their child that the car does not move if they are not sitting in their seat properly. I personally yell and scream and tell them they're going to make me crash the car--good thing that's about all I reserve yelling and screaming for so it does have a huge impact.

I'm not much help--Aiden used to loosen his harnesses off at highway speeds..

If that doesn't work - another thing you can do is to get a velcro strap and wrap the chest clip up. This will delay a Houdini and more importantly - you will HEAR the velcro - so you will know when it's time to pull over and have said "chat".

Unless he has a developmental disorder, a three year old is not too young to understand a frightened and angered parent saying firmly, 'NO! WE DO NOT EVER DO THAT! THAT IS VERY NAUGHTY, UNACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOR!"

Particularly if you are usually a very calm, even-mannered parent, a small amount of flipping out is not going to permanently scar him, and will impress to him that this is a VERY. BIG. DEAL.

My third is almost three. About six months ago he went through a "i'll slide the chest clip down while mommy is driving!" phase.

I ranted and raved and carried on like a fool. After doing that twice (and yeah, I really turned up the volume, LOL), he never did it again.

Anyone know if the Nautilus chest clip works if it's 'backward' (you know, the front is now facing the child's chest instead of out)? And would this trick physically deter a child from opening it?

And of course, 'talk' (volume at your own choosing ;) ) to him so he won't do it again.
