3y10m convertible seat hurts

My 40 inch 40 lbs 3y10m old is very unhappy with her car seat she says both car seats hurt her back. The Britax Blvd’s back padding moves as the headrest goes up causing the two back cushions/flaps to separate and the line/seam is hurting her back. She has this same issue with her Graco Contender, head rest padding creating a seam on her back. My oldest (now 10) had the same complaints about her last seat, britax frontier.

I found that the least amount of separation in the padding is the Chicco myfit zip air. She tried sitting in about 10 different seats, the Myfit and a Graco Nautilus were the only two that received the least amount of tears/yelling. I prefer the Chicco Myfit because it is narrow and I drive a Toyota Tacoma (it’s small).

Idk what to do. I’m a little apprehensive about buying anything because she is has not outgrown her current seats. I expected the complaining to come to a simmer months ago but it has only gotten worse. Distracting her focus doesn’t seem to help. The poor thing tries to ride around with her hand placed over the seam. I should note we take a 7-8 hr road trips every month or so, I don’t want to torture anyone.

Does anyone have suggestions?

What about something without an adjustable headrest? Perhaps an Evenflo SureRide?

That’s a great idea, no adjustable headrest! Yay! I bet this is the solution! I completely forgot that seats came without headrests lol

The SureRide seems a little deep, deeper than the two we have, I’m constantly bumping her head when loading her.

I stumbled on the Diono Radian when searching for seats without adjustable headrest.. I read the review on this site for the RXT and it makes me wonder if she will be too tall very soon. Upon more research I am a little concerned with the crash test reviews, but I couldn’t figure out what year those reviews were from and if they have improved and it may be the recall that was discussed in your sites review. I would get the R/RX To stay away from the headrest padding but I’m not sure it’s an issue with the radian RXT.

I saw a CoscoFinale and the Evenflo Chase Plus harness boosters. I will try those at the store.

Are there other slender no adjustable headrest seats?
Thank you so much

Your child has already outgrown the Chase; it only harnesses to 40 lbs. (The Maestro is a similar shell but with a 50 lb harness limit but that might not last l long enough for her- check her growth chart curve to see what agree that would be.) Check carefully how much height is left in the Finale as it's not very tall.

The Evenflo Sonus 65 may be an option, it's got shallower sides than the SureRide and is not quite as tall but taller than the Finale. (There's also a version without the 65 that only goes to 50 so careful on that.)

The Radians are shorter than the other seats I've recommended, and EXTREMELY difficult to install in many vehicles. They do, FYI, have a flap with Velcro closure as well which might irritate her.

Having sensitive kids is always a shopping adventure lol.. I can’t thank you enough for helping me find options.

I believe she is in the 75% for height and 85% for weight.

I am not too worried about difficult installs, because I know sometimes it’s sweaty and a struggle. (having this Britax Blvd clicktight has made me feel spoiled) I am remembering an acquaintance mentioning she had labored a bit when installing her Dionos, despite that she loved them. But you may be right about the Velcro.

I can tell you that if the seam on the Britax convertibles bugs her, she's not going to like the Diono. And she's likely to outgrow it by height very soon, possibly before ready for a booster. Same goes for the Finale height wise. I'd give the Sonus 65 a try.

I will give the Sonus a try. I’m still so sad she doesn’t like her britax blvd. Thank you so much for all your help.
