Which seat do I want?

I'm not pregnant yet, but we are casuallyTTC and I'm a planner.

I'm trying to figure out which seat I'm going to want for this hypothetical baby.

I drive an '07 CR-V, DH drives a 99 Corolla that we will hopefully be replacing with an Outback soon, but it may be another sedan instead. We have a Boulevard already that will probably go in DH's car, so I'm primarily looking for something for mine.

I'd like to do a convertible from birth, I'm not a big fan of infant seats. Originally I thought I wanted a NextFit, but now I'm really interested in the Fllo.

Obviously I'm looking for a good ERF seat. We have a CCO that expires next year that we could use at first if we needed to before baby fits well in a convertible, but I'd prefer if it would fit at birth. Budget isn't really an issue.

Major bonus points if it comes in all black. That and the styling are a big draw of the Fllo.

WSS :) when my BFF was pregnant with her twins we planned on them moving to one of the clones after their buckets were outgrown. Now the Extend2Fit is a possibility given that her oldest was very tall for his age and the extra leg room could be quite helpful. You never know what will be out when do you need a seat :)

It can be fun :) I still end up in the car seat aisle all the time! You could have different vehicles by then too. I was all worried about my 99 Cavalier not having top tethers for when my godson turned FF but I ended up with a different car by then, problem solved!

I would be doing the same thing! Find what you like now, and keep an eye out for new seats that might fit the bill. I like having a mental database of seats I like and why I like them so I can keep an eye out for others that might fit the bill.

Yes thank you! That was the point of this thread.

I agree that you shouldn't commit to anything quite yet, but I totally understand the fun of looking! My baby won't outgrow her infant seat for at least another 4-5 months, but have I been shopping for convertibles for the last 6 months? Yes! ;-)

Anyway, I might recommend adding the Britax Boulevard Clicktight (Circa), the Graco Milestone (Gotham), and the Peg Perego Convertible (Licorice) to your list.

I do like that boulevard too, but we already have one (not clicktight) and I kinda want something different.

Ooh I love the look of the peg convertible, I forgot about that one! How is it with newborns?

I don't really love Graco in general, no real reason but none of their seats really do it for me right now. Obviously looks are far from the most important factor but if I'm considering styling they just seem... Idk.. Clunky?

I hear you on Graco always looking clunky to me...but after playing with lots of seats lately, the ease of use is making the newer Graco seats look more and more lovely in my eyes.
:)

Basically, everywhere that I find myself complaining about a Britax or Nextfit, the Graco fixes the problem. The only thing I really don't like about Graco is the chest clip, but I am hoping I will get used to it because I like the light weight and ease of adjustments so much more than on my other ERF seats.

As far as the Boulevard, keep in mind that the Clicktight seats are totally different -- I don't even think they should have the same name as the "regular" Britax seats because they are completely redesigned. Depending on he DOM on your Boulevard, a Boulevard Clicktight will last you anywhere from "longer" to "a LOT longer" as far as height both rear-facing and forward-facing.

I don't know about how the Peg works for newborns. I only recommended it because it seemed to match the aesthetics you are going for and I know that some folks on here like it a lot! I personally think unless you have a short and heavy child, it fills basically the same niche as the Britax convertibles, but at a higher price point and without lock-offs, so it's never been on my list. But there must be reasons why it's fairly popular on here so I hope someone else will chime in!

I helped one mom with the Peg convertible for her newborn. Even with the seat slightly over-reclined it pushed her baby's head chin-to-chest. By about two months she was ok. I used my Peg from around 4 or 5 months with no problems. It is a really nice seat (especially our Canadian ones with the ARB). It's similar to the Britax, but with more leg room, and more interior room. I don't feel like I'm wedging my kid into the seat. The crotch strap length is better as well. The headrest can't be used all the way up for rear-facing, though, so Britax now last longer as they can be used with the headrest all the way up.

I like the Peg more and more, and that's just from it being on the shelf at BRU and looking so sleek compared to the other stuff. That and the Fllo, they just look so neat and clean, and the Peg seems to have so much legroom and be so low profile, too. Bummer it doesn't seem to work for newborns, though.
Of course I sell the most Gracos, people seem to like all the fiddly-floppy newborn pads that I spend hours trying to straighten out and thus hate, lol.

I really did love my Peg, though I had to sell it recently. Too many seats, and that one just didn't work out for my situation anymore. If it worked better for newborns, I would have kept that instead of my Boulevard. I can't stand the limited leg room on Britax seats. I do love my Fllo too. If it wasn't working out great for my 2 year old right now (3 across the back of my Odyssey), I would get the infant thingy and use that for the newbie.

Love the clek's with infant thing-y. I prefer the foonf over the fllo, but the fllo is awesome as well.

I've read somewhere that the peg didn't have much leg room compared to the nextfit when ERF. I have the nextfit & fllo and I say I like both for different reasons. The nextfit is very compact, comfy with a lot of padding in the cover, extremely easy to use/install and has a whole lot of legroom for ERF. I don't especially like it when I had to install it via vehicle seatbelt in my husband's previous 2011 toyota camry; it kept coming loose. But it stayed put in my 2010 Lexus RX450h installed via vehicle seatbelt side-by-side with the fllo. Now onto the fllo, I have the 2015 model. It was a tad bit harder to install with the older lockoffs but once I called to purchase the new 2016 lockoffs, it's been super easy! The Fllo is not compact at all, is very tall (DH complains of blocked vision in my Lexus), and lacks padding (new 2016 is supposed to have a lot of padding). I am 5 ft & my husband is 5'7" and it didn't fit RF in the center of our rental 2015 jeep patriot; the back of the Fllo hit the 2 front seats and this was installed without the ARB. It prevented my husband from driving comfortably so I ended up driving on our trip. It fits fine in my husband's 2009 honda pilot with a rolled up blanket for additional recline...almost anything can fit in this car. It is the primary ERF seat in the center of my Lexus due to missing LATCH anchors and I must say it did take some work to get it in the sweet spot so it wouldn't hit the front seats in both of our comfortable driving positions and the passenger seat moved way back (not all the way back but moved far away from the dash/windshield). This is with the ARB. I especially like it in the Lexus b/c it is very narrow. Passengers fit comfortably on either side and I can achieve 3 across with a RF/FF nextfit & britax frontier.

Hope this helped.

I'm like you, a planner. I've got 2 infant seats for theoretical baby #2 and am thinking about getting an infant thingy for new baby in the Fllo if DD surpasses 50 lbs by the time I get pregnant. And I've already played with installations in both cars with all the car seats I have hahahaha

How well does the foonf/fllo actually fit a newborn with the infant thingy? I can't find a ton of photos but from the ones I've seen it looks pretty good, despite the chest clip being huge.

Thanks!

I haven't really looked into the differences between the 2015 and 2016 Fllo at all, do you know if the price is going up?

For the one seat for my car we really aren't worried about price, we'll do more budget friendly seats for DH/my parents/whoever. But still, the Cleks are expensive and any savings is great.

Can I bump this now that we're expecting?

Baby is due 10/1. I'm 99% positive we want a convertible rather than an infant seat.

I had been almost set on a Foonf but now I'm leaning toward a black CCO. Will I regret not having the convenience of an infant seat? Every nanny kid I've had or friends kids I've watched I've been real annoyed by the bucket.

Cars are an 07 CRV and an 08 Kia Spectra.

Again, bonus points if it comes in all black!

I'm now on my second kid without an infant seat. Only time I wish I had one is when trying to try on clothes at a store. The rest of the time I have baby in a sling. Mostly I've loved the coccoro. I hate the seatbelt installation but latch is a breeze. With the first baby I even carried it inside sometimes when he fell asleep in it. Note with a toddler, too, I don't have enough hands for that. A few weeks ago I won a GB Lyfe travel system so I installed the infant carrier to see how I like it. I like the seat but they time I try to carry it around I complain and muse about how other moms do it every day because it's a real struggle for me. I find infant carriers awkward and heavy. So I'd say if they irritate you now there's no reason you're going to suddenly want one.
