Velvety/plush vs. slick fabric

Any preferences on this? And why? I am now debating between Onyx and Zebra for the FR 90. How hard/easy is it for the kid to scoot back into position on a velvety fabric if they climb in themselves?

I don't know about scooting/sliding back because my ODS uses the armrests on his FR85 to pick his bum up to scoot it back. When he will at all..... 3.5 yr old tantrums are such fun.

Neither Onyx nor Zebra are velvety....so I'm not sure lol.

It looks like on the FR90 they put that sturdy black fabric on the seat portion on all the seats, so I doubt you will have any trouble with it being too slick.

Hmmm...I thought for sure that the seat bottom portion of the Onyx fabric was velvety. I could have been wrong though.

Most of our Britax seats have been the velvety fabric and I've never noticed a problem or had a complaint. I'm disappointed they're moving away from it.

The bottom part of Onyx is velvety. Just like on the convertibles. If you go look through Darren's review of the FR90, there are a few good pics of the fabric at the velvety part.

Ok, I'm trying to define what velvety/plush vs. slick is so correct me if I'm wrong.

I have a Cowmoo MA70, I would consider that velvety...right?

I also have an Onyx MA70, there's two kinds of fabric on it; the back/bum portion is gray and kinda slick (or crispy)? and then black sides are plush. NOT the same feel as the cowmoo velvety. Matter of fact the black plush is starting to fade and getting pilly and looks kinda ugly lately.

DS has no issues getting in either seat. When I ask him to "scootch back", he puts his hands on the sides and pushes his bum all the way back. I much prefer the cowmoo feel but I honestly don't think he cares either way.

So with the FR90, if it's plush I'd stay away. If it's velvety, then go for it.

Sorry for the rambling...

I think you're right about them having two plush fabrics. We have cowmoo and livia. The cowmoo is what I think of as the classic Britax fabric, that fabulous velvety fabric. In my experience, it holds up amazingly well and is really hard to stain, so I don't understand them moving away from it.

The black sides of the livia have a soft fabric, but it is different. It's more velour than velvet and not as thick or refined feeling? I wonder if it's like your onyx, although ours has held up fine so far, it's not seen much use. If it can't be velvet, I'm really hoping the cactus flower is like the livia pink fabric because it still seems to be a nice feeling, quality fabric. I'm concerned about the new black fabric on the 90, but I'll have to wait and see.

It might sound silly to some, but I really appreciate the premium Britax fabrics of the past and hope they don't ruin that. Bring back the velvet!!!

This is kind of OT but this thread reminds me of the drama I had with DS1 because we had one booster that had the soft soft plush sides and one that did not. He decided at some point that he would only ride in the one with soft sides.

Back on topic I have a have these covers for my FR85s-Cow/Livia/Cardinal/Rushmore and we don't have an issue with getting into the seats.

:yeahthatlove:

Let's petition! Bring back the velvet! ha ha

Let the protest chant begin:
Bring back the velvet!!! Bring back the velvet!!! Bring back the velvet!!! Bring back the velvet!!! Bring back the velvet!!! Bring back the velvet!!! Bring back the velvet!!! Bring back the velvet!!! Bring back the velvet!!! Bring back the velvet!!!

The rep I spoke to the other day said they'd received complaints about the velvet fabric, so we just need to complain enough the other way and maybe they'll bring it back.
