Britax Snob

I find my RXT install easier than my old MA70. I love the FR85, but my Nautilus too. I probably will never own another Britax convertible unless they up their shell height.

Let's just say that after trying almost every seat out there, I am back to all Britax seats.

My suburban has a blvd 70, fr 85, one parkway with the back on, and one backless parkway.

My civic has a MA 65 and a fr 85. And thanks to wayfair, my spare seat just went from nautilus to fr 85.

Every time I try another brand, I am reminded why I love britax so much.

Thank You!! You helped me remember my cover name...sounds pitiful, but I have been trying to remember that darn name for a while now! I love it too, in fact I just tossed it in the wash and hung it to dry, looks pretty good for being an older cover.

The seat is in my avatar, tiny pic, but there it is...now it is living in my lower level awaiting a big cleanup. Then to figure out what to do with it. Has some time left before it expires.

You are welcome. And no kidding. My friend stuck the seat in her basement without as much as a plastic bag over it. The cover was BROWN. I swear I thought there was no way the cover would ever look nice. Threw it in the wash with oxyclean, and it looks brand spanking new. Not a faded spot, nothing. It is so pretty!!!! I got the seat because I needed something with lock offs to take to Brazil and was worried about head slump as it doesn't have the deep wings as the MR, but nope, not an issue at all. It took the MRs place in my car and now I have no use for the MR. My dh is having a cow. The MR is sitting.in the living room because I have absolutely nowhere to store it lol

I'll admit, I'm a snob as well! We have the Britax Advocate 65cs. LOVE it! I don't think I'll ever buy another brand of seat again! And it comes in cowmoo.. How could you not love a seat in cow print.. I can't!

I'm no snob, but I see the appeal. I love my radians dearly, but britax seats make up the bulk of my car seat stash. The frontier85 is awesome! The old style parkways are perfect for my car and the lot of kiddos I have. Lastly, I have the love for the old style britax covers, so I have the marathon in the mix to change outfits along with my mood. (If I had money, that seat would have many more "outfits".)

I dont think I am a snob but I have owned countless britax over the years and I LOVE the ease of use and comfort. I also love the graco myride and am open to suggesting other seats at work at BRU and to friends. But I must admit I have having a love affair with my classic MA in Kayla. I will keep that seat forever. And my frontier rocks! There is no better seat on the market....IMHO. (for forward facing kiddos)

I think that's why the title is "britax snob" and not "britax is the safest seat evah!"

To me, "snob" has a negative connotation indicating that they know it's not necessarily the safest but they like it for certain reasons and are admitting their "snobiness."

I think people show a lot of CCO, Radian, Recaro love too.

And you are absolutely right! The Bubble needs to be controlled!

I agree that others seats are just as safe but after not having any Britax for my 6 years of car seat use, I have 3 and really think they provide a level of comfort and ease (for convertibles) that my others didn't. I bought them for specific features to meet our needs. I do think there is a gap in their coverage from age 2-4 for a lot of kids though. Smaller kids could last long enough erf but definitely there are seats that can be better for 2+ year olds RF. I'm not really a snob for them and will look at other brands just as seriously, but after researching these are what work best for us at the moment.

Yeah this is why I said I think the myride would be better for my little dude in some ways ... but I have this perfectly good cow classic marathon, so I am going to use it. He's really small now but who knows how that will pan out. I may end up buying another seat down the line, I may not. The classic is a nice seat and it'll do for now. It's really strange how Britax hasn't yet addressed extended rearfacing comfort.

I don't really expect them to ever address shell height because then you'd have no call to buy the FR85 from them.

I tell friends who are buying a new car seat for the first time not to jump on Britax. I got into Britax because it was tops when my first son was a baby (the MA held a bigger kid than many other seats) but other brands have come a long way and have a lot more to offer now. If I were to buy a new convertable now and didn't have the girls FR85s to hand down, I'm 95% sure I wouldn't buy Britax.

I agree. I think some folks are so sensitive about the Britax brand issue that any thread praising them is going to draw disapproval.

Now, before my first sentence brings down wrath upon my head, said folks may have good reasons for being touchy about it. I've never talked to anyone who was ashamed they couldn't afford an expensive car seat, but if I was a technician working seat checks my POV would be different.

Definitely a gap in coverage for the 2-4 yo's. If britax and diono would just merge, they'd be covered. I think I'm actually a "rebound control snob" more than a britax snob. Now that we're starting to see it on some other seats, maybe I will jump ship.

This is true. We all point to Sweden as the paragon of ERF safety- but they aren't using seats attached to the car with nothing but a thin strap at two points, either.

Wouldn't it be lovely to have some kind of comprehensive crash test & real life crash data source, comparing all nations that use automobiles as their dominant mode of transportation? Instead of piecemeal bits.

hmm, When I read snob I read nothing more into it then she just was pointing out that she just had Britax seats for her kids...No more, no less...

I've got two britax seats, Because I have a large 4yr old and this brand happens to have the car seat in the u.s with the tallest slots. If Evenflo or Graco did, then I would have gone with them.
They also offer the PWSG, which I have and like because of the extra point on the HBB, which gives me a little more peace of mind.
I think we go with what works for us. If your buying simply for brand and not what will work with your child & vehicle then I'd consider you a Snob.

I tend to give friends and family members Britax seats as gifts because I think they're so easy for the average person to install and use. The RA 55 is a great price and on par with the majority of convertible seat prices, so I wouldn't consider it expensive either.

Out of all my seats, my RA 50 is my favorite. Obviously, it's not safer than any other seat, but it installs easily in every car I've put it in, the harness is easy to adjust unlike my other seats (RN 80SL, CA, etc), I love the cover options, CS is great, I prefer rear tethering, and the cover is easy to remove for cleaning. I just had to remove my Britax seats in my car because I need 3-across in the coming weeks, and it pained me to have to put my RNs back in the car. Lol.

I agree, but it is nice to have diono as an alternative then just have them combine with Britax, which might mean a more bulky seat - Since it seems Britax has bulkier seats, IMHO. Although, the FR85 and PW aren't to bad.

And I'm sick of people acting like Britax is some crazy expensive luxury brand of car seat. It may have been in the past but it's certainly not top of the line now.
You can get a RA50 for around $100, a RA55 for $150. I've seen plenty of clearance sales on the chaperone (online). Those prices are very comparable to Graco which may be viewed by some as a "step down" but has very nice and easy to install seats, good padding, cute covers. So what's below that? The Scenera- which is well, what it is. And then we have lovely Dorel seats which I don't think anyone on this board has an overwhelming love for right? What am I leaving out...evenflo?

In contrast what do we have that is similar or higher priced in many cases: Peg perego, Recaro, Cybex (no convertible though), Diono, Combi (the Coccoro is way more expensive than the RA and doesn't last as long!) Chicco, Maxi Cosi, Orbit Baby and then of course we have the astronomically expensive Clek.

So what gives? I think it's a prevailing, outdated attitude. Most everyone I know who didn't buy Britax, didn't buy it because they liked another seat better. Not because they couldn't afford it.

Yeah, I agree that the FR85 is pretty expensive. But I checked Amazon and they have it for about $210, the cheapest Nautilus is $137. That is a big difference but then again the FR85 is the tallest harnessed seat on the market, so if it gets you a year or yearS more of use, maybe it's worth it? I know it's worth it for the moms of kiddos on the autism spectrum or other special needs where they aren't booster ready yet.
