My boyfriend has a single cab Ford Ranger...Is it possible or even legal to install a forward facing car seat?

Yes, you can install a FF carseat. If the truck has airbags, you may need to turn off the passenger side air bag with the key switch - check the vehicle manual for Ford's recommendation wrt this. You should also check the manual to ensure that a carseat can be installed in the center seat if this is the location you are hoping to use, as some trucks prohibit any child restraints in the center seat (due to danger from driver's side air bag, I believe).

Rear facing car seats can only be installed in the front/only seat of a truck if you use the key switch to turn off the airbag (or there is no airbag).

how old is the child? what seat will he be using? what year is the truck?

While you *can* install a seat there, there are a lot of "what-ifs" before I cwould say whether it is a safe solution.

Yes, it's possible, and legal, to install a car seat in the front seat of a single-cab truck. Even states with a law regarding children in the front seat have an exclusion for trucks.

I drove my mom's single cab Ranger with my oldest RF in the passenger seat for several months. I would recommend rear-facing if at all possible.

OP, give us more details. We can help you keep him safe. We have owned many single cab trucks and several extended and crew cabs. We have 4 kids so someone was upfront.

Ages, weight, torso height?

I hope no one minds me bumping this versus starting my own?

We have a Ford Ranger 2007, single cab with a split seat. Our 4 year old is 42 inches and about 38 lbs. We need to swap out his Britax Diplomat we were using in the truck because he's reached the hight limit.

We own a Radian XTSL or a Britax Frontier 85.

We'd like to use the Radian, but I'm not sure the seatbelt sits well on the belt path.

Any ideas on which would do better or if anyone has gotten a good install in this truck on either one of these two seats?

TIA!

Found this forum as to find an answer for myself.
I have a 3 year old 30 lb son & an almost 2 month old baby.
I was curious as to if it’s possible to put baby in the middle front or if I will just be unable to use the truck now that I have 2 kids?

Hi Marilyn. If your truck has a keyed airbag on/off switch, then if you are diligent about turning the airbag off each ride, you can put the 2 mo in the outside seat and the 3 yr old in the center if the 3 yr old is forward-facing. There will still be airbag interference with the middle seat, so no rear-facing carseat should go there.

If you cannot turn the passenger side airbag off with a key, it is not a safe vehicle for a rear-facing child.
