Cosco Prospect / Eddie Bauer Cubb

Sorry the quick list format, but I've brushed this off long enough & have so many other things to do, but wanted to simply post the info
  • Weight:
    • harness = for children 22-40 pounds
    • highback/backless booster = for children 40-100 pounds (no overlap for children who fluctuate just below & barely above the 40# mark)
  • Height: for children 34-57 inches
  • Crotch depths = 4.25", 5.5", 6.75"
  • Harness slots = 11", 12.75", 15"
  • Highest highback booster position:
    • top of headrest = 27"
    • shoulder belt guide = 19"
  • Widths:
    • widest point = 20.5"
    • (interior shoulder room = 10.5")
  • Buckle, chest-clip & harness: typical Dorel Juvenile chest clip, 2 piece crotch buckle (not the puzzle type buckle)
  • Installation: installed well in all backseat positions of 2005 Ford Freestar, 2005 Toyota Prius, 2005 Toyota Highlander
    • LATCH: lower anchors have only 1 adjustable side
  • Shoulder Belt Guides: open space, which might be more user-friendly compared to slot-like guides that require more attention to fit the shoulder belt in place
  • Head support: deep "wings" lined with EPS foam for side impact protection
  • Padding: thick padding on seat, back & head; padding from seat bottom & seatback tend to bunch up against eachother possibly causing discomfort of lower back for some kids
  • Owner’s Manual: easy to follow & organized well, but picture of no-back booster does not model a vehicle headrest (!)
    • Note: This seat does NOT require vehicle headrest when highback portion is in use (vehicle headrest is required when used as backless booster)
    • highback portion is outgrown when the top of the child's head is even with the carseat headrest (as stated on pages 19, 26, 37 & 53 of manual)
  • Size, Weight and Portability: hefty for a combination seat, very wide base; seat & back do not separate easily (like the Turbo)
  • Price: a bit high-priced for a seat with only 40# harness weight limit & imbalanced seating proportion (width of base suggests good fit for heavy child, poor fit for lightweight child, yet the narrow shoulder width most likely leads to many young children wanting to use backless)
  • Fabric Care: top half of highback portion (highback is 2 pieces, seat is another piece altogether) must be removed in order to remove the cover -- this is a bit tricky, frustrating
  • Other: 2 built-in snack/cup holders & flipable armrests
  • Conclusion: IMO, this is a good spare seat for young children who must have comfort, but not so good for those who may feel confined. This seat is not good for 3 across configurations.

Thumbs down Re: Cosco Prospect / Eddie Bauer Cubb

The head wings are now proving problematic for Leila at almost 5 years old -- they are wider at the top than they are at the bottom, but the bottom surrounds her shoulders.... In the highest booster position, she must twist & slouch out of proper positioning in order to fit, causing the seatbelt to cut into her neck.

Although there is still plenty of height room in the highback version, there is not adequate width for even my skinny kid so we've removed the back & she is now swimming in a very wide backless booster -- the armrests allow the shoulder belt lay just so such that she is able to pull her arm through & above it even while the Automatic Locking Retractor is engaged

We're going back to a Parkway.

Re: Cosco Prospect / Eddie Bauer Cubb

Cosco may have changed the harness heights on this seat ala the Apex without telling anyone. I took some pics in Target last night with my dd and the lowest harness slot in the seat was 15" and they went up from there! I wish I had though to grab my tape measure, they were super high. Still only harnesses to 40 pounds though

Re: Cosco Prospect / Eddie Bauer Cubb

Nevermind. The whole slot thing was really bugging me, so I went back to Target and took another look at it.

It turns out the seat was mis-assembled. When properly snapped into place, the slots were about 1.5 inches lower. 15 still seems pretty low, but I didn't have a tape measure to verify that.
