they are ruined, right? and now I learn that the FPSVD is discontinued, so hopefully I can still get a replacement harness.

Yeah, those straps are not safe any more. Call and see what customer service says, but you will probably have to pay for a harness to replace it.

Those are Britax straps, so they can send you out a new pair. They're $12 plus shipping.

See if there is anything else you or a friend need from Britax before ordering because shipping stays at $8 for a lot of items.

Oh no, I'll never get it from her. She says she's always put her seat straps in the washer and they are just fine.

of course, she's never been in a serious accident so..
