I was watching this show this morning (have never watched it b4) and was very disappointed in some of the remarks. They had what appeared to be a Graco rep on the show discussing baby products including car seats. They had what looked like a ComfortSport as their idea of a great car seat. The rep said it is such a good set b/c you can use it from birth and rear face it for the first year of the babies life and then turn it around. She didn't even tell them to wait until 1 year AND 20 lbs. What kind of a message is that sending to all the mom's to be out there! I'm going to write to the show to tell them how I feel about this! When will the manufacturers get ERFing through their big corporate skulls!!

You know why they don't push ERF'ing is because we are already having a hard enough time keep rearfacing to at least 1 AND 20lbs. Parents think that their 22lb 9mth old can go forward facing. They are just trying to keep these kids rearfacing to the mininium.

While the Comfortsport would be my top choice it is a nice seat over all. And, It is rated to be used from birth to 40lbs. They are just there to push their products.

Re: ivillagelive.com

My point is that as long as everyone continues to spew the wrong information the situtation will never get better. If she had incorporated better info in her speech then perhaps a few ears would pick it up and things would begin to change. I think that each seat box should have a sitcker on it about ERFing, they should include the info on seat listing on websites, and it should be printed in huge letters on the manual. If she had at least said 1 yr AND 20 lbs that would be been one thing... but at 1 year, many babies are still too small of the minimums. My friends baby was about 16 lbs at 1 year. I know the ComfortSport is rated for birth-40, it was just frustrating b/c they didn't say emphasize that this person was from Graco. There are much better seats available... seat that I would recommend to friends over the CS.

I know this is a huge problem, but I can't help thinking that if the "rule" was changed to 2 years and 30 lbs (or something like that), maybe those 22 lb. 9 month olds would stay rear-facing a little longer.

Of course no seat manufacturer is going to change the rule unless A) they are mandated to change it, or B) all the other manufacturers change at the same exact time because they'd be affraid of losing sales because parents want to turn their kids FF - "lets get this one because he can sit FF in it at only 20 lbs."

It is too bad though that the reps and engineers at Graco haven't figured out that the Comfortsport is one of the fastest outgrown convertible seats, and that the harness adjuster is nearly impossible to reach when it's RF. If they could fix that, it really is a cushy looking seat at a reasonable price. It's too bad that rep wasn't pushing the SS1.
