3 carseats and where to install?

I have a Toyota Sequoia and need to know the safest and most practical placement of 3 carseats (one britax roundabout for a 2yr old and 2 graco snugrides for twin infants). Do I put them all 3 straight across in the back or utilize the 3rd row seating for one or more child?

Thanks.

Re: 3 carseats and where to install?

Can you get anyone into the 3rd row when 3 seats are across the middle? Most vans can't. In this case, I would put the twins in the middle, and the 2 year old RF in the back seat. HTH!

Re: 3 carseats and where to install?

Put all three across the middle of the SUV.

If the 2 year old is RF I would put him outboard and the twins in the two remaining spots.

If the 2 year old is FF, I would put him in the middle and the twins in both outboard spots.

This is all dependent on getting good installs. Safest and most practical would be to have them 3 across the middle row with the RF seats outboard.

Re: 3 carseats and where to install?

Thanks so much for the responses! So how much does it matter if I put my 2 yr old in middle or outboard spot- he is FF and it's really tough to get him in that middle spot. Maybe it will be easier once I'm not 8 months pg w/ twins !

Re: 3 carseats and where to install?

Also- Jennasmommy, to answer your ?, no we would not be able to get anyone in the 3rd row seat if we used all 3 across the backseat. Not ideal but ok if that's the safest. We'll just take the 3rd row out for now. I like the idea of putting my 2yr old in the very back if it was safe but also he would freak if I RF him all the way back there. He is FF in backseat now...

Re: 3 carseats and where to install?

While your 8 months preggo, I'd probably have him outboard to make things easier.

Once the babies are here, I'd move him to the center and have the babies outboard. He will be safer in the center and it will be easier to lift the carriers into the outboard positions while he crawls into his seat in the center.

Then you could just turn around from the front seat to buckle him or you can temporarily place one of the carriers on the front seat while you buckle in your two year old, then pop the carrier into place.

Edited to add: Your two year old is safer in the middle row (even outboard) because he is further away from the cargo area of the SUV.
