Marathon and Dodge Intrepid?

I tried to install the Marathon in my parent's 2002 Dodge Intrepid today, and it just doesn't seem right.

While I can get it "shake the car" tight, the base does not sit flat on the seat at all, and the back isn't against the seat back either.

I tried scooting it out to the far edge of the seat, and it doesn't get any better.

The seats in the Intrepid are very slanted, and there is a built-in headrest bump at the top (which is preventing the seat from being flush with the seatback)

Does anyone have experience with this car?

It may just be an incompatibility...but I would love to make it work if possible.

Re: Marathon and Dodge Intrepid?

Sounds like you're doing a FF install? While it'd be ideal if the base & back were flush with the vehicle seatback & cushion, it is fine if it's not -- so long as it moves less than 1" at the belt path & less than 20% of the base sticks out over the edge of the vehicle seat cushion edge....

Re: Marathon and Dodge Intrepid?

Yes, it will be FF.

It just looks so weird. There is so much empty space since only the top of the back, and very front edge of the base touch the seat. I could literally reach my arm around behind the seat if I wanted to.

It really doesn't *look* safe.

Re: Marathon and Dodge Intrepid?

There isn't a seperate headrest...just a headrest bump out at the top of the back seat.

I ended up sitting my rear down in it and tightening it that way. I think it is better now, and making more contact with the seat...but it is pushing about 1.5-2" into the seat in the front. Will that cause damage over the next few years of constant pressure?

Re: Marathon and Dodge Intrepid?

Becky,

if you could take pics for me, that would be great. Everytime we're in there, the install just bugs me. There is too much air between the seat and the Marathon.

Thanks!!
