My SIL and brother have a 4 month old that is quickly approaching 20lbs and he's already outgrown the normal baby carrier type car seats. Obviously they need a rearfacing carseat, but what fits into a Chevy Silverado extended cab? Everything she's tried is crammed into the extended cab (which isn't large to begin with) and it just does NOT fit with the front seats pushed back (or even in the middle range... pushing the front seats all the way up is not an option).
They need one that will fit into the extended cab but at the same time, not cost alot of money as they just can't afford to spend alot of money. Any ideas or suggestions so that I can help them with this? Thanks in advance! Theresa |

Re: Chevy extended cabs- need RF help
I have gotten my large Britax in the back of my DHs ext cab Chevy, just not at a 45' angle.
I would try a Cosco Scenera, Safety First Uptown, or possibly an Evenflo Triumph. The Evenflo truimph would be my last choice only because a big baby like that could outgrow it RFing quite soon, which wouldn't be good, and would be very BAD if he wasn't even 12months yet. The Scenera and Uptown are similar. The Scenera is cheaper ($39-$49) and less padded. The Uptown is much more padded, which makes it a little narrower, and around $100. The Evenflo Truimph is usually over $100. Remember that a convertible seat doesn't have to be reclined to 45' once the baby has better head/neck control. At 4 months it really depends on the baby.

Re: Chevy extended cabs- need RF help
In a silverado she should have tons of room to fit just about any seat rfing other then maybe the radian. The uptown would fit fine or if she wants to go with the fisher price safe voyage she'd get a little more use out of it. Just remember that it doesn't need to be reclined as much as an infant seat.

Also, it's fine for convertible seats to touch front vehicle seats. Britax actually encourages bracing.

Re: Chevy extended cabs- need RF help
We have a RF Radian for our daughter in a 2000 Chev Silverado. It actually is the only seat I can get a good install in the middle seat and bonus it doesn't block the view either.

Re: Chevy extended cabs- need RF help
I got the Marathon in the center just fine..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...s/DSCN1778.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...s/DSCN1777.jpg Not sure what the angle is though.... Ignore the LATCH strap hanging down in those..I was just quickly trying it rear-facing and didn't store the LATCH straps.. I could go out and try it outboard too, since I do need to move the Regent again anyway.. Oh, and it's not tethered b/c I didn't have the d-ring w/me. |
