Marathon Install Question

Hi, I have been having problems with my daughters marathon being too reclined. I've moved it away from the seat and that helped some but its still REALLY reclined. I think I have really mushy seats or something-Ford Taurus Wagon (center) Can I put it RF in the upright setting? Will this compromise her safety?
She is 22 months and 24lbs.

Also, another question: when you FF should the tether clip face towards the seat or towards the rear of the car.

Britax does okay installing the seat in the upright position when rear-facing. I would only do it if it was absolutely necessary though. One problem it can cause is it sort of breaks the base. A lot of times, the seat will not lock into the upright position when it's turned FF.

When you moved the base away from the bite of the seat (where back and bottom meet), did you put your weight right at the foot of the seat (not where kiddo's butt goes, but where her feet go)? If not, try that. That always gets the seat REALLY upright for us, then we use the RF tether to get some recline.

If you post some pics, we'll be able to see exactly what you're talking about! Oh and I'm not sure what you mean about the FF tether.

After you install the seat tighten the RF tether, it doesn't have to be tight but just so there isn't any slack. The more you tighten the tether the more reclined the seat it will.

You can put your Marathon RF with it in the upright mode, those who have called Britax about it have been given the ok. The only thing is, is that sometimes the base breaks when the seat is used like this and I wonder if it has to do with the tether pulling the seat back causing the base to break

Once you have your seat FF and you do the tether up it should be done up behind the seat. I'm not quite sure what you are asking here

Thank you for that info. I am the unregistered poster but I registered.

I'll try to reinsall it paying attention to put weight on the foot of the seat.

If it still reclines too much, I think I would be ok if it doesn't lock into a recline again as she is our last baby and will be in it probably till it expires anyway.

As far as the FF tether, I helped a friend of mine install her daughters decathalon today and her tether spot is on the back of the minivan seat. I was wondering if when I clip it to the tether anchor, if the opening of the clip should be facing towards the seat or if it should clip in so it faces the back of the van. Does that make sense?

What a cute picture of Amelia!! I love her name and her seat. :-)

The clip should have the opening facing the seat, not the back. I find it a lot harder to do it the other way. My husband installed Piper's tether with the opening up one time (in my SUV the anchors are in the trunk flat on the floor). I couldn't figure out how he did it and it took me a long time to get it undone. So just clip it on with the opening facing the seat's back and that's that.

Is it less safe to have the tether clip the other way or is just inconvienent?

The opening should face the seat unless it's a Ford Windstar. Ford actually recommends they be flipped the other way for the Windstar. The LATCH manual isn't entirely clear (to me) whether this applies only to a certain anchor or to all of the anchors.

But it might not want stay in the upright position when you go to switch it to FF
