Yeah Newfoundland!

The Provintial Gov't just passed the 8 and 80lbs booster seat legislation. There has never before been a booster seat law in Newfoundland the law was RF to 1 & 20 then FF to 40, after 40 was up to the parents.

The New Booster seat law also has NO exclusions, it used to be that if you were riding in a Taxi, school/daycare transportation that you were exempt from the carseat law, now this is no longer the case.

This is really great CPST news as Newfoundland was the one province with the worst outdated laws and very poor Carseat usage.

Re: Yeah Newfoundland!

Good for Nfld!
Quebec was one of the first provinces to pass a booster law. However, it's basically not enforced... I see dozens of children everyday at my kids' daycare (and in my own family) who should be in boosters and aren't. I've never heard of anyone getting ticketed for improperly restraining a child.
So it's great having a law but you also have to enforce it.

I was reading a news item the other day saying that 1,8 million Canadian children between the ages of 4 and 8 are not properly restrained.

Re: Yeah Newfoundland!

Yippee! That is amazing about there not being any exemptions.

Join Starlight's Book Club, read your manuals! Car seats are cheaper than caskets & you can use them more than once. How much did your wedding cost? How long did it last? Does your child's safety seem more affordable now?

Re: Yeah Newfoundland!

That's great! AB needs to get on the bus now. We have only the 40lb law too and our law is 20lbs or 1 yr old, although strongly strongly recommended that it's 20lbs, 1yr old and pulling to a stand. But the law is only 1 yr or 20lbs and then 40lbs or 6 yrs old.

So a 5.5yr old weighing 35lbs legally has to be in a harness. A 2yr old weighing 42lbs can legally be in a booster.

Yep... that's Aiden! Not that I'd ever want him in a booster yet.

Way to go Newfoundland!
