How much did you pay for your CPST course?

I talked to the coordinator from SJA today and found out that there won't be a course here until fall because seat checks aren't done in the summer here & they (obviously,) can't complete a course without a seat check.

She put me on the waiting list to be updated when details become available and provided with registration information etc. and told me that the class costs $125 for members of the public.

I thought that some here haven't had to pay? Don't get me wrong, it's not that much to pay, but I'm just puzzled why we should have to pay if others don't.

I'm wondering if maybe in SK and MB the provincial insurance plan covers the training course, and since we have public insurance here, that that's why you have to pay out of pocket.

Anyways, I'm a bit disappointed about having to wait until fall, but also excited to have made the first step and to know that I'll be contacted when they're setting up the course.

The MB course is covered through Manitoba Public Ins. (MPI). Does AB have a public insurance You could always come and take it in MB !

Also, aidansmom took the course through something other then SJA but I don't know if it cost her anything!?

I'm on the wait list for Edmonton as well. Today, I will be contacting the rep in Calgary to see about a Calgary class.

The training I took through the Buckle up Bears program is only allowing me to do seat checks through their program. So now I need to go to yet another class and get official "national" training through SJA to do seat checks whereever/whenever I want... even though the training classes are pretty much identical!

I'm not positive if SK or MB are through SJA or not. I believe that MB was as the form I needed to fill out was an SJA form, but not sure on SK as that form had no mention of SJA on it. I'm a little concerned that the training from SK would not be SJA training and therefore I would have to retake the course (yet again) so I'm waiting for an AB course.

I want to start doing private checks by appointment only, but I can't do that until I have the official national training by SJA... back to square one again. Although, I have done a few checks for close friends and their family members... there is no where to send these people out here, which is why I want to start doing checks by appointment through referral.

I didn't even think to ask about a cost, I'll check that out today when I call the Calgary rep... maybe we'll end up taking the class together!

Totally forgot: The BUB program did not cost me anything to take the course.

Re: How much did you pay for your CPST course?

It depends on how much funding is available and who is sponsoring the class. Some people do get their classes for free - others have to pay as much as several hundred dollars for theirs. My *class* was free, but I had the $60 Safe Kids certification fee.

Nope, we have private insurance. I'd wondered if that might be the case...

Oh well, it's not too expensive, but if was was cheaper we'd consider a road trip to SK or MB and then we'd be paying for a road trip/ kind of holiday instead of the course.

I didn't have to pay at all. My course was done thru St. John's Ambulance and MPI.

Mine was free and it was the nationally recognized one. I have a carseat check on June 8th so I will ask them how they are funded and sponsored.

Join Starlight's Book Club, read your manuals! Car seats are cheaper than caskets & you can use them more than once. How much did your wedding cost? How long did it last? Does your child's safety seem more affordable now?
