Can I disable smilies?

Is there anyway I can make it so I don't see them? I don't mind a few, but there are some people on this board who go way, way overboard. I'm talking every paragraph having 4 or 5, often one after another with no words in between. It's annoying and, IMO, cheapens the message. But more than that, it makes me want to avoid posts by these people even though I know they often have something valuable to say.
Is there some way I can just turn them off so I don't have to see them anymore?

Re: Can I disable smilies?

Yeah, but that's only so I can't make them, not so I can't see other ones. Thanks for looking though!

Re: Can I disable smilies?

Oh that doesn't work! It only takes them away from the text box. Sorry I don't know, but the blinking makes me dizzy! Even the cursor is blinking faster then before It is nice having a few more options but they can be very distracting!

Re: Can I disable smilies?

i wonder if it's possible to put the more "tame" emoticons in the main box and have the more hyperactive ones in the "more" box? or if the software randomly distributes them...

Re: Can I disable smilies?

I have re-ordered the standard smilie box to only show the first 16 non-flashy smilies by default. There is also a limit of 10 images per post, including smilies and other images.

I do not believe there is a way to disable smilies altogether, so this will have to be the compromise, at least for now. Unfortunately, there is no way to please everyone.

Re: Can I disable smilies?

I appreciate the box not having the blinky smilies. At least that helps me

ETA:
Was it here, or else where, that there used to be a maximum number of smilies per post? I know that somewhere, if I quoted a post-and there were more than 3 smilies total in the quote and my reply--I had to delete a few.

Was that here? lol

I used to have that problem here. It must have been disabled so you can have as many as you want
