3 across in a Prius--need booster help

Duplicate post--accidently put in car safety section first:eek:

Hey all,
We just bought a second car (lightly used Prius). I have a 2 year-old in a Radian XTSL (prob FF as he is nearly three and I don't think I can get the Radian in RF in that car without touching the front seat), a tiny 11 year-old (who sits in a Dakota backless in our van), and a 7 year-old who sits in a Monarch in our van. I'm pretty much ok with the 11 year-old in a seat belt (she just is only a tiny tad off of passing the 5-step test) but I need recommendations for a good HBB for the 7 year-old. He is strictly average sized for his age (as in not tall), and weighs 55 lbs. Ideas of what might fit?

As always, your advice would be greatly appreciated .

I actually had great luck getting an outboard Radian in a Prius RF without touching the front seat. :) Try it! You might be surprised. The front seat had to be pretty upright, though not as upright as my seat in my Corolla, but there was plenty of leg room-- more leg room in front of the RF Radian in the Prius WITHOUT touching than I have in our Corolla WITH touching.

If the 11 year old is still a smidge off the 5-step test I'd want her in a booster still. :twocents: I'd try her in both seating positions, though, and if she does pass in one and not the other (possibly the middle) then that's where I'd put her.

The Britax Parkway SlideGuard is pretty narrow, and might be a good choice. It does become a backless later as well.

That's good feedback. I just assumed that, because I can't get it RF in our Sienna without it touching the back of the seat in front of it I wouldn't be able to do it in a Prius. Maedze also recommended the pwsg--I am not a Britax fan but will get one if it's the only thing that works. I guess a Vivo isn't narrow enough, eh?

You can try it, if you can find one in person. From what I've seen, no, it's not as narrow. The PWSG is THE narrow booster available right now.

People have also been able to get Radians RFing in the 2nd row of the Sienna without touching. How upright are your front seats? That's a common "seats won't fit" problem I see-- the more upright your seat is as a front-seat passenger, the safer you are, too, so it's not just a logistics recommendation. Or, it may be a 2 person job. Have you found a local tech to try and help you with that? :)

christineka specifically has RFing Radians in the second row, I know. You might PM her for tips. :)
