Any hope of 3 across RF in a Yaris hatchback?

DH and I drive a Toyota Yaris hatchback, 09 (the 4 door version, or 5 door, depending on how you count). We currently have a 4yo RF in a Radian with angle adjuster on the passenger side and a 2yo RF in a Coccoro behind the driver.

We are expecting #3 in the spring. The 2yo will be getting a new seat, either another Radian or a Foonf, and new baby will go in the Coccoro. I would like to have them all RF if possible, although we *can* turn the 4yo if necessary. (He only weighs 33lbs but is 41" so is nearing the limit. I prefer to keep him RF until he hits the limit if at all possible.)

My question is: is there any possibility of fitting any combination of those 3 seats in a Yaris? (Radian, Coccoro, Radian or Foonf) I have searched old threads and found mixed results using the middle seat. We will explore the option of getting a different vehicle if necessary but we'd rather make the Yaris work if we can.

TIA!

Hello!

I'm not seeing a lot of 3 across success stories when I search, but that doesn't mean it's not possible.

For starters, I'd measure your back seat. How many inches do you have to work with?

The Coccoro is 15" wide, Foonf and Radians 17" according to our database.

See if it's at least 49". If not, then the answer might be 'not possible'.

According to the spec list, we have about 47". I'll try a puzzling scenario at Buy Buy Baby before we sell it but it looks like I need to start asking questions in the car buying forum. :(

I would try a RF Radian with angle adjuster for the 2yo, a FF Radian for the 4yo, and a RF Coccoro for the infant. While the Radian is 17" at its widest, the base is narrower, more like 14", and it might work. Even tiny cars have a bit more shoulder room than hip room.

First, I would see how much room the 4yo would have in the Radian. The Harmony Defender is about the same width, but I do not think its armrests would play nicely with your other seats. Also, you do have other children to pass the Radian to later, so I feel OK recommending a convertible for FF-only use.

You probably will need/want a bigger car eventually but there's no harm in trying to work with what you've got for now. I made a Honda Insight work for 2.5 years after baby #2 unexpectedly brought baby #3 along with her.

One other crazy-sounding option might be RF Radians for your 2 & 4yos with a RF Myride for the baby in the center. At their bases, they are 14 + 11 + 14 = 39" and they puzzle together quite well. You could potentially also get Radian-CCO-Radian in there.

The advantage to the two Radians is that they puzzle underneath either the CCO or MR. Radian-MyRide is my go-to tight installation puzzle, as it's even narrower than two Radians.

Yes! This is what I was thinking, too. I used to get a radian next to a Recaro convertible (another narrow-based but high seat) in really tight spaces where nothing else would fit.
