husky owners, i have a question myself...

wow. what a great price on the husky wicket at buybuybaby.com!!!

i've been wanting a marathon for dd, 3.5 and 38-39 lbs....she's not the monkey she used to be but let's face it, that step from 5 pt to bpb is a scary one. she already rides 3 miles every sunday in my parents' buick in a rightfit...but for everyday and longer trips i'd still prefer she be in a 5 pt....

so.......... in my '99 ford escort, will i be able to fit ds' britax advantage and a husky for dd, both outboard? or am i kidding myself.......?

i'd like to get that marathon but darn, it's soo much money for a preschool teacher who makes $8 an hour...i don't know if i can save enough by the time she gets to 40 lbs....

i have never had my hands on a husky....i guess i can call the store here locally that carries the marathon and ask to take a husky to the parking lot if they have it but before i pack up both kids and make the 2 hour roundtrip drive, i wanted to ask your opinions.......

edited to add, that YES of course i have a tether anchor...i even have two available from the outboard position to double tether it when she gets heavier...i know it's not mandatory anymore but still....

ok i looked at the database and the comments there were promising. i'm guessing that he vw passat and the subaru outback have similar sized backseats and it was installed outboard in those cars just fine......

My Super Elite fits fine in a subcompact toytoa prius, and a bmw 323i, so it should be fine in an escort.
Did you know that the minimum weight for the right fit is 40 pounds? you might want to consider a seat that is "legal" for children under 40 pounds, like the cosco high rise or safety baby polo (both about $18 at target).
good luck getting a good deal on the Husky :)

i know about the weight thing.....she is 38 lbs at one dr's office and 39 at the other...

she was 40 lbs at the one dr's for about six months last year......then she got really really skinny when she went through a growth spurt and obtained a bike.....she grew 3 inches taller but still lost a pound or two....so she'd been riding in it for a little while and then lost a pound or two.....depending on whose scale you take her to...and at my sister's house (on a dr's scale LOL) she is actually 41 lbs arrghghhg

i was all ready to take the harness out of her combo seat and put her in bpb mode.......then she lost that little bit so i kept her in the 5 pt...in the meantime, though, i had gotten the rightfit for my parents' car and she'd already used it a couple times.

anyway, apparently weight is subjective....so i feel okay having her in the rightfit occasionally since she is hovering somewhere around 40 lbs. sometimes 40, sometimes 39, sometimes 41.

do i need to be more picky about it? how do i know when she is *really* 40 lbs?

of course, if i bought the husky for my car, the breverra could go in mom and dad's car and they would have her in a 5 pt for a couple more pounds. i don't like the comfort clip on that for in their car where i can't see her, though.

buying a britax would make the poundage issue in the rightfit a moot point :)

That's cool...just making sure *everyone* knew the listed weight on the Right Fit :) It is tough to get a set weight on a kid, I know, my 5.5 yo ds hovers around 40 pounds, too. I would only put the harnessed breverra in your parents' car if you are sure they could use it correctly every time...I'd rather have a 39 pound kid properly in a right fit than way too loose in a harnessed seat, but that's just MHO....

hehe they don't know how to loosen the straps. they DO know they have to take her coat off to get them to latch at all, though. they complain every time they use my seat (occasionally i put it in their car if they are making a longer trip with her) that i have it too tight, it's hurting her, yadda yadda

i'm glad you posted back, i was thinking about that all day today, that she might really be in trouble if she was riding in the rightfit.

i'm still mulling over the husky deal...i'd like to take her to portland to make sure the marathon wouldn't be a better fit for my car....i looked at her in the breverra again today and her head is approaching the top of the seatback on it so i'm thinking she is actually probably getting close to the height limit on the marathon anyway....? i've never looked at one so i wanted to look to be sure. i know the top of her head can go past the seat's top..but only to the ears so i'm thinking if i got her the marathon, she would only be in it for a year and then i'd be asking the same questions again......

*sigh* maybe i could afford a husky for her and a marathon for ds so he could go back rearfacing..........i'm really bummed he's been in it for less than a year (he's 15 months now) and already too tall to be rearfacing......grrr

how tall is your dd now? the listed height on the MA is 49 inches, and some pretty BIG boys fit in it.... http://pages.ivillage.com/momika/carseatphotos/id24.html . The top harness slots are 17.5-18 inches, so about an half an inch to an inch taller than a breverra. Of course, the Husky, with it's 21" top harness slots and $129 price can't be beat.... here's an 8.5 yo (she's almost 11 now and reportedly still fits!) http://www.angelfire.com/mi3/terib/superelite.html
and then there's this new little number coming out (soon...i hope!) http://pages.ivillage.com/cpsadvocate/bodyguard.html
My 5.5 yo loves his old Super Elite...so far no peer pressure to move him to a booster full-time...fingers crossed things stay that way! and my 30 pound dd is 39" and loves her MA RF http://pages.ivillage.com/joolsplus2/ (sometimes i do put her FF, and it seems like her head is awfully close to the ceiling/rear window of my car...a little disconcerting in a small sedan, but no problem in a wagon/suv/minivan)...also, with the MA, you can get 3-across MUCH more easily than you can with a Husky (that puppy is WIDE)...ok, I'm rambling... :)

heh heh nooo more kiddos for *this* single mom...unless i meet a very rich partner who can afford the minivan that would be a requirement for me to have more kids LOL

soo many things to think about for a carseat addict LOL!

i forgot to add, ds is in an advantage now...can't be rearfacing because he's too tall :( even with the traveling headrest.....

that bodyguard is cool but to me it's just another bpb when there is a $130 husky being dangled in front of my face LOL :) is it kinda like the komfort cruiser as far as the high sidewings? the rest of the features are really cool though...darnit why can't *all* carseats have the cool features britax adds? are they just dumb? ok yes i know marketing makes more money in volume but still....grrrr....the average lower middle class layperson should have dummy-proof creature features available and affordable to them....

whoops there's my inner social worker showing LOL

anyway....i still think i'm ordering the husky tomorrow when i get paid if i can swing it...and the deal's still on LOL

if it's not...someone else will have a similar deal soon...and i've got a pound or so left :)

tee hee...you don't have to have 3 children to want to get 3-across :)....it's a carpool thang....
I can't wait to see the crash tests of the bodyguard...have you seen these.... http://216.239.39.120/translate_c?h...ev=/search?q=recaro+start&start=40&hl=en&sa=N ---I suppose at some point you just have to let go and let the car protect the occupants, I'd just like to put that off as long as possible for my wee ones, lol.
yeah, britax does sport some pretty snazzy features, but some people are so bitter about the lack of cupholders...go figure....
:)

Husky

We had the original SE just like the Husky in DH's Ford Escort Wagon. It fit great outboard with a RA on the other side but forget about anyone else squeezing in between. We just got the Husky from BBB and we love it too! The cover is much softer than the first ones. I have a ds who just turned 8 and still loves his "easy chair for the car" so I'd say go ahead and order it!!

Did it work?

Hi Bazanna, please let me know how it worked trying to get three seats in the back of the Forrester. Just thinking of it brings to mind a strange circus act. I just can't imagine that they would fit. I would be heartened to know that they did. BTW, I love my new Husky that I got from BBB. What a deal!!!

oh they fit, no problem....NOT the husky, though...i hasn't arrived yet LOL i can't imagine trying to get a husky and 2 other seats in...

my friend's ds was in an evenflo titan, forward facing....so first i had her fill out a carseat checkup form and i installed his seat correctly for her in the middle position, tightly and tethered.

i then put my ds' britax advantage forward facing outboard driver's side...i pulled the titan just a tiny bit to the right (i had it in there tight but i pulled on the front of the seat so i did get it to move just a bit, enough to keep my advantage from "hanging up" on the titan)...got the advantage in there tight and tethered, fully independent of the titan....

i closed the rear driver's side door to make sure we were alright there...it *just* closed.

i went to the other side and pushed the little bit i had the titan moved to the right----over to the left now, pushing up against the advantage.

dd is in a century breverra ascend combination still using the 5 pt. i installed her seat pretty easily, making sure the wide sidewings of her seat were kinda under the sidewings of the titan....and made sure this seat was tight and secure independent of the titan, of course. tethered it in...

and we were good to go! it was a perfect fit, i just had to be careful when closing the rear doors with kids inside NOT to close their hands between the carseats and the door armrests!!
