Hello all, I am needing to figure out what I need to get to be able to do 3 across in our 2013 Malibu. Right now we have 2 Evenflo Triumph 65LX Carseats. My DD is 3 years old, 34 lbs and 40 inches tall. My DS is 1.5 years old, 24 lbs and 32 inches tall. Recently found out am pregnant with #3 and we'd like to be able to keep this car for awhile so recommendations on seats? We are okay with putting new baby in a convertible seat and not a carrier. Thanks for any help!

For a lot of midsize cars, one typical 3-across arrangement is to have a narrow rear-facing carseat (like a Diono Radian, Clek Foonf or Combi Coccoro) in the middle seat. The Radian and Coccoro should even be suitable to use with a full-term newborn, though having them in the middle obviously isn't as easy for you to load baby into the seat! Then, you might even be able to get your current seats outboard next to the narrow one in the middle.

I assume your DD is still rear-facing? What about your DS?

Depending on the answer, another possible setup is to use try a Radian in the middle for one of your older kids, either RF or FF (for your 3 year old). You may need the Diono angle adjuster for rear-facing. Then, try a narrower infant carseat for the new baby on whichever side is easiest for you. A couple models known to be narrower than average:

Then on the other side, you would use one of your Evenflo Triumphs, either FF or RF depending on who is in the middle and what puzzles the best.

I wish I could say if you could puzzle your two Triumphs with a new infant seat. It might be possible, but I'd need to see it in person. Perhaps someone else who is familiar with the Malibu can chime in on that!

I have a 2008 Malibu, I'm not sure how much different it is than the 2013, but I do also have a Triumph. I'm fairly certain there is no way I could manage a 3 across with the Triumph. I don't have a Radian though, so maybe a FF Triumph and a RF Radian would work. I barely got an acceptable 3 across- Graco Argos (same size as nautilus), backless Turbo booster, and FF Tribute. The booster rider had to slide under the seat belt it was such a tight fit.

My DD (3yo) is FF but my son is RF still. I guess I can always order a diono and then try it with the 2 triumphs I have and if it won't fit I could order something else then. I am okay with doing baby in a convertible seat so an infant seat isn't like a huge deal. Thank ya!

A maestro is definitely worth a try; it is relatively narrow for the size of children it can fit. I wouldn't guarantee that it will work, though

It would be worth a try! I had a '13 Malibu for about 9 months. I did struggle with three across in it, but I had 1-2 booster riders to mix in. Would have been easier with all harnessed seats. I did use the Maestro for 3 across in my Accord and it worked well. I really like how the Maestro worked with a rear facing Coccoro, so I think a rear facing Radian would work.

I don't think the Triumph would work well in a tight three across. You could also try the Harmony Defender for your forward facing 3 year old.
