1996 jeep cherokee with a britax marathon

I've tried to install the seat in the middle rear position but the latch & buckle end up jamming into the car seat opening and don't leave enough room between the seat and buckle. I even tried twisting the buckle end a few times to get it lower but it still contacts the opening...

So, then I tried the rear passenger side. It lined up a little better and is pretty tight side to side, but the foam in the seat of the Cherokee (not Grand Cherokee) is very squishy and light pressure rocks it forward and back - it seems like it could cause whiplash? Anyway, I was wondering if anyone had experience installing any type of seat in the back of a Jeep Cherokee (not Grand Cherokee).

Have you tethered the seat yet? You can tether Britax seats rearfacing, to prevent a lot or all of the movement at the top of the seat http://www.angelfire.com/wa3/isakswings/ratetherrf.html Of course, make sure that you can get the seat tight "at the beltpath" it sounds like you have that part taken care of, and the seat is good and tightly installed....the tethering will just add to the stability and prevent the seat "rebounding" in a crash.
