britax advantage vs. expressway

Is there a specific advantage to buying a convertable seat vs. one that's just for foward facing? I'm in the process of buying another car seat (I currently have a roundabout, which i love) and I can't decide between the advantage or the expressway. I have a 2002 GMC Envoy so either should fit fine but I'm looking for some input on either seats advantage of one another.

clarification to this..

Sorry, I just realized when I re-read the above that it's a little confusing. I like the comfort/convenience features of the Advantage but was wondering if the Expressway ISOFIX was worth looking into and forgoing the features if the installation was easier/better than the Advantage.
I guess what I really need is just some help deciphering the real difference between the two...and which one would be better suited to my child (14 mos. 23 lbs. foward facing) and my car.

Great Question-

I get similar questions by email, so part of this is post cut and paste from another response:)

For safety, rear-facing is a huge advantage ( www.car-safety.org/rearface.html ) for a convertible seat over one that is just forward facing. Many kids can remain rear-facing up to 30 pounds or even longer in some convertible models.

On the other hand, since your child is already front-facing, a 20-40 pound toddler seat like the Expressway may be a very reasonable choice. You might also consider the Britax Marathon and upcoming Britax Wizard. They have increased height and weight limits so you should be able to use them longer than either the Expressway or Advantage. The Wizard will have a harness system similar to the one on the Advantage.

In principle, the rigid LATCH system on the Expressway ISOFIX should be easier to use than seatbelts or even flexible LATCH attachment straps. It may also have a slight safety advantage over other forward facing seats, as it should result in a very good installation with virtually no movement.

Unfortunately, I do not yet know if this applies to the new Expressway ISOFIX, as I have not been able to evaluate one.

If I am able to evaluate an Expressway ISOFIX, I will be sure to post photos and a review, so please check back periodically. Unfortunately, it may not be in time for your decision.

thanks

I just read about the Wizard coming out soon, do you have any idea when? I think I might just wait for that because it sounds like a good combination of both the ISOFIX and the Advantage.

No idea at all, sorry

If you call Britax Customer Service, they can sometimes give you a rough idea. As you probably know, the Wizard will have flexible LATCH attachments like the Marathon, not the rigid ones.

Good luck!
