Roundabout vs Regent safety

This might be a dumb question...but here goes!! :D

We just got DS #1 a Regent. He was in a RA.

DS #2 is in a RA still. He has crawled in DS #1's seat to check it out. He had a much easier time getting in and out of it since it is lower.

So, since it is so much easier for him to get in and out of a Regent, I was thinking about going ahead and getting him a Regent.

My question is: Is the Regent as safe as the RA as long as DS #2 meets the minimum weight requirements. Or should I keep him in his RA until he outgrows it.

The answer is yes and no.

If he meets the MINIMUM requirements in the Regent, then he is safer in the Roundabout. The reason being because the minimum for the Regent is 22 pounds, and a 22 pound child belongs in a rear facing convertible seat.

If your child is already forward facing and either cannot RF any longer or you choose not to allow him to rear face, then there is no real difference between the two. If he is happy in the Regent, and you want to get him one, then no reason not to. A properly installed Regent is just as safe as a properly installed forward facing Roundabout.

If kiddo has already passed the maximum RF limits on the RA then the Regent would be fine -- either one correctly use is really just as safe as the other if kiddo must be FF, but if kiddo can still be RF then the RA is safer for now....

DS #2 is 35 lbs so he is pass the RF limit on his RA. So, it looks like the Regent would be just as safe as his RA.

Thanks for the input. You guys are great! :)
