seat for a 6 year old?

Hi there,

I currently have my 45" 44 lb six year in a five-point harness convertible seat. He is starting to squawk about having a "baby seat."

I was thinking that I might be able to keep him in a five-point harness and get some "cool points" if I got one of the harness to booster seats ... which one would you recommend? (He's primarily in a 2013 Toyota Sequoia, if that matters.)

Additionally, I need a booster recommendation (possibly a backless?) for quick trips with friends.

Thanks for your help!

My oldest has similar stats & is also six in a Frontier - he loves it! Doesn't complain & has lots of room to grow!

For a booster we have the Graco Turbo Safety Surround which fits him great & a literider for emergencies which he fits well with the belt guide attached.

My DS didn't like the evenflo Maestro which had too narrow of a harness & bothered him. He did have a Graco Nautilus at one point but it was a finicky install in my Toyota Matrix so we switched him to the Frontier

Would he sit properly in a booster? Is he a rule-follower or a wiggleworm? For kids of appropriate age and size (which your son is), *who can sit properly every ride, every time,* even while sleeping, boosters have not been shown to be any less safe than harnesses. The goal isn't necessarily to harness as long as possible. But some six year olds just aren't ready yet. Some do fine with a booster for short trips but need a harness for longer ones.

Good article on what constitutes being ready: http://csftl.org/harness-or-booster-when-to-make-the-switch/

He tends to be rule follower, so I think the harness is probably more for my peace of mind than anything. I like the fact that he can buckle himself into his harness currently, knows where the chest clip goes and knows to tell me if the straps are too loose. Sleeping is another bonus with the harness, as we often take long trips.

I'll definitely check out the seats mentioned. Thank you for the suggestions.
