FBSE and tether s

My son has outgrown his infant car seat so last night we went shopping for a bigger one. I've done some research on them and was really wanting to buy the FPSE, but not putting out much hope for finding one. Well, DH and I walked into the baby section of our local Walmart and there staring us in the face was on with a $30 sale sticker on it!! Needless to say I'm so excited. We sat baby in it and he looks and acts like he is comfortable. But, now to my question. The instructions say to use the tether when the seat is in the forward facing position. Neither of our vehicles have the tether anchor. Would this seat be safe to use until we have the anchor installed (if it is possible) and travel with friends who's cars do not have this tether anchor? Thank you for any help you can give.

Tethers

Carseats must pass minimum safety requirements without a tether. It is certainly acceptable to use this model without a tether if necessary. Newer carseats must pass a stricter requirement with a tether, and tether use is preferred whenever possible. Also see:

If your vehicles are newer than the 1989 model year, there is a good chance you can have a tether anchor installed. Please post the model and year of your vehicles, and I can double check if a factory anchor kit is available.

Thank you

We drive a 1997 Ford Econoline (Clubwagon). This is NOT a conversion but has 2 bench seats in the back. We also have a 1989 Mercury Grand Marquis. Thanks.

Some Tether Anchor info

My manual says that the 1992 through 2000 Econoline models E150, 250 and 350 have 3 holes under the upholstery in the rear rail of the seat cushion frame for the bench seats. You will need to buy the CSS Tether Strap Anchor Kit from a Ford parts dealer that contains the 8mm bolt, plate, bracket with weld nut and thread lock. The part number should be F7UZ15613D74-AA.

1997-2000 models can also have the same part installed behind the front passenger seat.

Please verify these part numbers and locations in your manual before ordering.

The 1989 Grand Marquis can also have anchors installed. Three will fit on the rear parcel shelf behind the rear seat. The part number should be F13Z54613D74-A

Ford dealers are required to install at least one tether free of charge (BOTH parts AND labor) in each of your vehicles. If your dealer will not do this, call Ford at 1-800-392-3673 or try another dealer.

Good luck!

LOL, this thread threw me off till I saw the date.

To the new poster, check your manual. They put three tethers in my 93 escort for free.
