Question Recaro or Britax?

Hi, I'm looking for a new car seat for my 2.5 years old son. I wonder, is RECARO (Performance SPORT Harness to Booster Car Seat ) has the same safe performance and experience as a Britax brand ?

Hi there.

All seats pass the same safety tests. We don't know if one is better than another, or worse than another. We do know that the tests are very stringent and that a properly selected, installed, and used seat will have quite a positive benefit during a crash.

What is the height and weight of your son? If he can still fit rear-facing in his convertible, I would recommend prioritizing keeping him rear-facing longer. A rear-facing car seat will provide better protection for him than a harness-to-booster, regardless of the brand. We don't have evidence that either Britax or Recaro is safer than the other, but there is lots of evidence that rear-facing is safer than forward-facing.

Thanks for your response. He is about 32 in height... Therefore, we can't use a rear-facing car seat anymore.

Hi and welcome-
Like the previous poster mentioned, rear-facing at age 2 is safer by a lot, and there are seats that will RF your kiddo for a while now, then last until booster age (5-7, depending on maturity). I personally prefer to use a dedicated booster at booster age and not have to deal with a comparatively heavy harness-to-booster combination seat.

That being said, I have both the Recaro Performance Sport and Britax Frontier G1.1 in different cars. For one thing my tall 5yo is about to outgrow the Recaro by shoulder height and isn't really booster ready. So if your kiddo is in the higher height percentiles that may be a factor. Other than that, I thought I'd prefer the Recaro because it looks so much cushier and beefier, but I ended liking the Britax a lot better. Cup holders. That's huge as they get older. Also, the Recaro is quirky... That open belt path... You take your chances that it won't bother your child to have the belt across their back. And only four headrest positions... 90 percent of the time the correct headrest position is way above their head. Google pics of kids in it and you'll see what I mean.

Anyway, if it were me I'd RF in something now that I'd want to FF in later. Lots of great convertible seats out now!

Have you considered a Graco Milestone or a Graco Forever? Both seats would allow you to rear face your son now, turn him forward at age 4 or 40 pounds, whichever he hits first and then convert to a booster once he is ready.

Our 2 YO (almost 3) is 38" and rear-facing.
We have a Graco Extend to Fit and also a Clek Fllo for her, and both are great fits for larger kids to RF, and then convert to FF later as well.

The Recaro would be a top choice for her when she's 4 or 5 but it's too wide for our setup. Nice seat though.
