Which position for the crotch strap?

Which position for the crotch strap?

We bought the Century Next Step DX and are questioning which position to put the crotch strap in. The one closest to the back of the seat is a little tight - it comes up from underneath our daughters diaper. The one closest to the front of the seat leaves a little room between her diaper and the strap. Which way is the safest?

Sorry for the late response, here's the answer-

You should use the slot closest to, but not under the child.
