Question New seats for small 5 year old and big 2 year old

I have a soon-to-be 5 year old that's quite small for his age, 30 lbs / 42 inches tall. He's currently forward facing, but has requested to rear-face again (in Britax).

I also have 2 year old that weighs 29 lbs and is about 35 inches tall. She's rear-facing and I'd like to keep her that way for as long as possible.

We have 4 seats, 2 of which will expire within the next 2 years:
Britax Boulevard 70 - expires 2017
Safety 1st Complete Air 70 - expires 2018
Recaro Performace Sport - expires 2020
Graco 4ever - expires 2024

What would be the best child/seat configuration? And what should I get to replace the Britax? I'm thinking maybe a 3-in-1? I'm hoping to spend less than $200.

Thanks for your help!

Did you get the Boulevard new?

For right now I'd look at the 4Ever for the older child and the Boulevard for the younger. There's no rush to buy something new unless the Boulevard has an unknown history from before you got it.

Probably in less than a year when the older is forward facing again, I'd move him to the Recaro and the younger to the 4Ever.

Then I'd probably look for something to replace the Boulevard.

Thank you Wendy. We got the Boulevard new (manufactured in 2010). Do you think my son will outgrow the Boulevard before it expires? He only grows a couple of inches per year.

I should have mentioned that we have 2 cars, which means that we are using all 4 seats at the moment. My son rides in the Recaro in my husband's car and the Britax in my car. My daughter rides in the Safety 1st in my husband's car and the Graco 4ever in my car.

Once the Boulevard expires, would it be safe to move my son to a high back booster? It feels like he's so small. He'll probably be 33-34 lbs and 44 inches tall.

Or would it be better to get a seat like the Graco Milestone that can be passed down to my daughter when my son moves to a backless booster?

Thanks again.

He should fit in the Boulevard until he's six or so. After that, assuming he's above the minimums of the high back booster, and he's just small without skeletal involvement, he'd be fine in a booster.

If you got a Milestone or you wouldn't have to worry, to be sure, and then your daughter could use it rear facing, forward, and as a booster later.
