Is latch neccesary?

We're looking to buy the Britax Roundabout the price is a bit high for our budget so my question is this. It's available w/o latch for 139.00( on sale at Rightstart.com) or w/ latch for 229.00 @BRU right now we have 1 car w/ latch and 1 w/o but we expect to buy a new car soon..still no guarentee it'll have latch. Should we opt for a less expensive car seat ( Victory $99) w/ latch, or is the RA better even w/o latch? We'll need it RF for atleast 6 more months. Or should we bite the bullet and spend the 229?

Re: Is latch neccesary?

LATCH is certainly not necessary. It is a nice convenience feature if your vehicle has LATCH, but in most cases it is not any safer than a proper installation with seatbelts. We usually recommend you use whichever methond results in a better fit.

Also see our "LATCH" page linked under the top banner.

The Roundabout is a very nice model. As you may know, the non-LATCH model can not be retrofitted to LATCH use. Only you can decide if the convenience of LATCH would be worth the extra dollars. If you think you can get a proper installation with the seatbelts, then it may indeed be a good idea to save money on the model without LATCH.

There are many other models that are also very safe. They do vary in comfort and convenience features. Used properly, a less expensive seat would also be a safe choice if you are content with its features. You might also visit the "Basics" link under the top banner for more information, and some links at the bottom to pages with specific recommendations.

Good luck!

That's an awesome deal

The Roundabout is just so much nicer and easier to use than almost any other seat, I think you'd be really happy to have it. The non-LATCH version is still a really very nice seat, and is quite easy to install in most cars. LATCH seats are very easy to install, but a non-LATCH roundabout is usually not difficult. Julie
