Britax Marathon/Wizard?

Hello --

I am just curious about this carseat that I know has not been released yet. The specifications list that it works forward facing up to 65 lbs (which is plenty for my 6 year old, 44 lbs, 46 inches tall), but I cannot find any specification about height. I drive an older minivan (89 Dodge Grand Caravan) that does not have shoulder belts for either bench seat.

I am fearful that the Super Elite will block too much of my view from the mirror and can live with using a booster seat in the passenger seat for a while yet -- at least until we decide to take a long trip.

Plus -- I cannot find the Futura 20/60 at any location where my son can sit in it to check out if it will end up being too short very quickly. Does anyone know where one of these is on the shelf somewhere in the Midwest. I would be willing to drive if I could just locate one to try.

Thanks for all your help!

Re: Britax Marathon/Wizard?

Hi SaraSue. The Marathon is based on the Roundabout. The Wizard is based on the Advantage. The Marathon is a larger seat, about 3 1/2" taller and it is wider at the shoulder area, though I don't know by how much. The Marathon has 4 sets of harness slots, compared to the 3 the RA has, and the top harness slots are about 1 1/2" higher than the RA's top slots. The Advantage is the same as the RA, except that it doesn't have harness slots--the harness height is adjusted by turning a knob. Knowing all this, you can get an idea of how big the Marathon/Wizard will be--bigger than the RA, but smaller than the Super Elite.

I have a SE in my Sienna and it is the same size as the captain's chair. I keep it in the outboard position right behind the driver and I don't have a problem seeing around it. I think it would block the view a bit if it were on the other side or on the back bench seat.

Before I bought the SE, I tried my son in a Futura. At the time he was around 37", I believe. He has a long torso and only had about an inch of growth room left in that seat. Since he was only 2 at the time, it didn't provide enough growth room for my tastes. I honestly don't think a 46" tall 6 year old will fit in the seat. My son has several inches of growth room in the SE.

HTH!
