Travelling on a bus with no seatbelts

x-posted, because I received no replies in the bus forum.

Hi! We're going to be travelling on a 22 passenger bus that has no seatbelts. My older kids are normally in boosters, but are fine on those seats. The trip is 7 hours, each way. We're going by bus, bec. DH won't be with us on the way home, and I can not drive so long, and there is no one to drive me back home. There are going to be other people on the bus too.

What do I do about the younger ones? Is there any way to somehow secure them? Do I need to hold on the lap the entire trip? I do wear my baby, so I could use the baby carrier to keep her secure, rather than in my hands.

Thanks so much!

Traveling on large buses is in general safe but may I please ask the reason for no seat belts? This is highly unusual. Is the trip taking place down in Mexico or somewhere else where seat belts are less common?

I would strongly advice not taking a seven hour ride one way on a semi large bus with many kids without seat belts. There must be other alternatives. Using a Babybjörn or similar for the youngest one would not make things better. Likely the opposite.

This is a new bus. It was purchased 2 years ago. I don't know why they're not made with belts, but TC doesn't seem to be very straight to me.

One set of rules for car manufacturers, but another for car seat manufacturers, such as FF needing a tether, but not obligating the cars to follow these rules....

Most large buses in North America do not have seat belts.

I was not aware of that. Sounds incredible.

Traveling by public transport is in general very safe regardless of circumstances. Speeds are often pretty low and the buses are huge so lots of energy in the "right direction". This does not sound like public transport and the bus, at 22 passengers, is not large. IMHO it should be avoided.

It sounds like a huge marketing and business opportunity if most buses don't have seat belts. Add seat belts and market your services as much safer. Add a power plug in each seat for ipad/iphone/laptop and also free Wifi on the bus to attract even more passengers. This is all standard in most places.

Anyone want to start a new bus company?:)
