Travel, lightweight convertible car seat

We are taking off on a multi leg overseas vacation next month with our 2.5 yr old (28lbs) and looking for a lightweight, easy to strap on convertible car seat to use in the various cities we will be renting cars. Any advice on a car seat that doesn't take a whole lot of effort to strap in and is light enough to travel with, economically priced. Thank you!

Cosco Scenera Next, although I don't know how easy it is with a seat belt, especially a foreign one that doesn't lock (you might need a locking clip). If all your cars use Latch, I think it would be the obvious choice!

This. Get familiar with the kinds of options you're likely to have for installing it (lower anchors, lap belt only, lap/shoulder belt with/without the ability to lock the belt) and make sure to take a locking clip with you. The Scenera NEXT doesn't come with a locking clip, so you'll have to get one.

My grandson had outgrown the Next rear and forward facing by that age so be sure to check that he will fit and have a little growing room.

The Scenera NEXT is great for rear-facing. If you want your child to be forward-facing, an Evenflo Maestro or Evenflo SureRide would be a better choice. The Scenera NEXT is actually outgrown forward-facing *sooner* than it's outgrown rear-facing, so it's functionally a rear-facing-only seat.

The Scenera NEXT will fit most kids up to at least age 3, but there are a few long-torsoed kids that'll outgrow it before then. One nice thing about the Scenera NEXT is that it can be installed more upright than the line on the side for kids that can sit upright independently.

Rear-facing is, of course, safer.

For international travel I would want a seat with lock offs (no way I'd be messing with locking clips), so I'd likely go with the Britax Roundabout. Not the lightest seat, that's for sure but definitely easy to use if there aren't locking seatbelts!
