Question about Britax Advantage and seat bight

We have a 2001 GMC Jimmy and the seats seem to slope alot. We have a 4 month old so our seat is installed RF. We initially used a couple of rolled up towels under the seat but I read somewhere on here that you don't need to do this when you install it. If we don't use rolled up towels then we have a space between the bottom of the seat and the base of the carseat because the seat is at a 45 degree angle. Is this safe?

Is the base flat?

The base should be flat--this is easiest to check when you are parked on a level surface and can compare the base to the ground. If the base is flat and you still have empty space under it, go ahead and use a tightly rolled towel to fill the space. It's OK if the base conforms to the bottom seat cushion, but you don't want the base tipped so far up that it's past level.

What I've done when installing my Roundabout is to put the base slightly up the back seat cushion. This allows the base to be flat and I can get the correct recline angle with the tether. There's a bit of empty space under the base.

I think maybe you read my post about using the tether to get

the recline to 45 degrees. I have talked to Britax about the space under the seat when you do this and they say it is fine as long as the seat is not reclined more than 45 degrees and the install is tight.you may use a towel to fill in the gap if you like but, in my experience if you prop anything under the seat to get the recline an then tighten the tether the seat ends up too reclined.Plus you have to work much harder to get a tight install.

safeinthecar...I did read your post LOL

The base is flat and the seat isn't more than 45 degrees but we are going to try and install it again this weekend because the shoulder belt is tilting the seat somewhat. I missed your directions about putting the shoulder belt through the other locking clip. I'm glad to know that it's ok to have a space between the seat and the bottom of the base. We had tried the rolled up towels but they seemed to make the seat uneven.
