Can't Check-in Online Because of CRS??

We're flying out tomorrow morning, 6am. Both kids (1 and 3yrs) have tickets & seats. When I purchased the tickets I choose 2 window seats for the kids, since they will be in CRS. I just went to check in for the flight online and got a message saying I cannot do online check-in because they "need to assign a specific seat for the infant" ?? what does that mean? We already have seat assignments... should I call the airline or just deal with it tomorrow at check in?

So, I'm assuming that's not normal when travelling with an infant...? :(

The hold times on the customer service line are atrocious - estimated 43 minutes! UGH.

Spoke to the supervisor - she stated that infants cannot check-in online because the airline needs to verify age and right to travel, meaning that they are traveling with or with permission of a custodial parent. Sigh.

What does that mean (not expecting you to know :)? I try to remember to take the kids' birth certificates with me but no one's ever asked to see any proof that the kids I'm traveling with are mine. (which is actually kind of weird if you think about it).

What airline out of curiosity? We fly all the time with kids but rarely check in online since we're always checking bags and have reserved seats (except for Southwest, always try to get right at the 24 hour mark with them).

We flew US Airways, and yes they did want to see baby and her birth certificate. They didn't ask about my 3yo!

Weird, I've never had that happen, and I've flown USAirways, also. I've flown them 2x with DD2 at age 2, but I may have when she was 1 also. I think we flew a different airline when she was under 1.

I know it's different when you have a lap baby because they have to be sure you are where the extra oxygen masks are, etc., but never heard of it mattering for a ticketed baby.
