Question Peg Perego height?

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping someone can help explain this like I'm five, because I'm feeling like a fool. My son is 23 months and tall (at his 18 month check up he was 36 inches, and he went up a pants size since then. He has short legs and a long torso.) He is slender for his height though, and I don't believe he's cracked 30 lbs yet. Anyway, he rear faces in a Peg Perego, but his head is nearing the top. Now, I realize the headrest can move up, but that puts the straps above his shoulders....I thought that rearfacing kids needed the straps to come in at or below the top of their shoulders. The seat advertises rear facing until 45 lbs or when the top of the child's head is one inch below the top of the headrest.

So, what's the answer? Can he rear face longer, and if so, how do I arrange the straps? I bought this seat because it was supposed to allow him to ride rear facing longer, and now we are looking at flipping him at 2 because of the strap placement.

Hi and welcome! You're right that the harness must be at or below the child's shoulders. The peg can be used Rear facing to the 7th headrest position. That means that the headrest will be higher than the seat shell. As long as your son is still within those limits, he can rides RF.

Are you saying with the straps at the correct height, his head is at the top or over the headrest? And that if you move them up, then the straps are above his shoulders?

If you could take a pic of him in the seat and post it here, that would be super helpful. Front and side angles would be useful. Even more useful is if you stand a DVD on his head, perpendicular to the back of the seat. That can give a clearer view of how much room he has above his head at the current strap height. Also taking a pic at what you think is the correct strap height and the next one up so we can see where his shoulders are.

Probably not the case, but you're not using the infant insert that goes under the butt are you?

Thank you! I will post some pictures tomorrow. And no, he isn't using the insert anymore. We also took the pads off the straps, I didn't like how bulky they were.

Here are some not great pics...moving the straps and the headrest up at all puts the straps over his shoulders. (He was not thrilled with photo time, poor kid.)

Right now his head is ok. When you measure his height in the seat, you need to measure perpendicular to the seat. It looks like he has anger inch or so before his head is one inch from the top of the headrest. Hopefully by then you can raise the headrest. Also, I don't worry if the straps are slightly above my child's shoulders when rear-facing. The hip straps hold them down in the seat also.

Weird...my post didn't post earlier...dumb app...here it is again (in case it shows up twice)

I can't really tell how much room he has above his head. What I meant by the DVD case was this:

myRideMeasure_2.jpg

If he has an inch or more, you're fine. If he doesn't have an inch, I'd like to see how much above shoulder the next click is. It's really easy with that seat to move more than one click so be aware of that. I usually pull the tab while keeping my hand on the top of the headrest so it doesn't pop up too fast and jump more than one click. Check the back of the seat and you'll see rectangle holes. Make sure you move up only one of those holes.
