no shoulder belt

I have a car seat that turns into a backed booster seat the only problem is my car is a 89 Camry and doesn't have shouder belts. what type of seat should I use for my daughter?

Hi. If your daughter is still under 40 lbs., then she can still use a harnessed seat. How old is she and how much does she weigh?

For booster use, the best solution is to get shoulder belts retrofitted in the outboard positions. This allows not only her to ride safely, but another passenger. Here is a site where you can look up the Camry for retrofits: http://www.carseat.org/Technical/640_RetroSB.pdf . Sometimes dealers balk for liability reasons at installing retrofits, but if you remind them that they replace your brakes, your air bags, your seat belts after a crash, etc., they can install a retrofitted shoulder belt.

If your daughter is over 40 lbs. and you can't get a shoulder belt retrofitted, there are other options. You can see them here: http://www.carseatsite.com/recommended_car_seats.htm . Look under the "Niche Seats" section.

Just be sure to NOT use a booster with a lap-only belt as it's not safe. Good luck!

I used to have an '89 Camry, and it had shoulderbelts in the outboard positions. You should be able to use your booster behind the driver or behind the passenger, just not in the center.

I have the same problem with my moms 89 jeep with no shoulder belts, the dealer said it can't be retrofitted either, my only options really are the britax, but i can't find one.... My son is going to be 3 in august and is like 38 pounds and about 38 inches.. so he is almost too tall for our 5 point harness..

You can find the Britax seats at Toys r Us/ Babies r Us. Probably other stores as well, but I'm not sure which ones, since they aren't in my area. I have purchased both of my Britax seats online - many online stores carry them. Do a search on Froogle.com for whichever Britax seat you're looking for and then have them listed by price. You should be able to find many options.

Actually i was talking about the Britax laptop because pretty soon he will be too tall for the harness,and the laptop is discontinued.....

i have been watching Ebay, but i lost out my last one at last second cuz i had my volume down on my computer.... i was soo mad, and right now i think it's safekids has one up for auction, but i can't see paying over $80 for something that retailed for $50 over 2 years ago...... I don't have that kind of money..
