Joint car seat...

Joint car seat...

Okay, I need a car seat that can be used in hubby's car for two kids- a 36 inch, 35 lb., almost 3 year old, and a 41 inch, 41 lb. almost 5 year old.

In the minivan, they are both in FP Futuras- one with the tray shield, and one with the 5 point harness (older kid).

What's the best option for a shared car seat when they ride with Daddy? I have my 7 year old in a Komfort Kruiser, and that is easily switched from car to car, but I guess I need pointers on what to use as the second car seat, for the almost 3 and almost 5 year old.

I was considering buying another Komfort Kruiser, and then all three kids could ride in it (with the head rest adjusted, but my other option was another FP Futura, although the only models I can find are the tray shield
version.

Is it safe to put a 3 year old in a belt positioning booster (I would use the retractor to position her)? Or is the harness for the higher weights a better option?

Help! I know I am bugging you guys, but I am still amazed I found a place to answer all my neurotic car seat questions!

Thanks in advance.

A few ideas...

Obviously, another Futura would be fine. Your children are all big enough to where the overhead shield version is acceptable. If you can find a 5-point version, that's great, too. www.dmart2k.com still has some shield Futuras for about $100, plus you may find some on ebay.

Second, a Britax Super Elite/Husky would do the job as well. It's bigger than the Futura, and some complain about the harness system, but it would certainly work well in your situation.

Third, a Britax Laptop. This assumes your hubby's car has adequate head restraints for your kids, but it does go to 65 pounds. This option also would have not have any adjustment necessary for kids of different heights, and is probably the easiest to use and install. I have a review in the Reviews forum here. The RightStart and BabyCenter.Com still have stock on these.

Fourth, any belt positioning booster rated for 35 pounds minimum or lower. A 5-point harness is recommended for all kids to at least 40 pounds, but if your 3 year-old is mature enough to stay seated properly in a booster than this might work fine.

If you have any more questions, please ask!
