Cleaning the straps on the Roundabout?

I know I have heard people talk about this before, but can't remember how they did it. Do I take the straps off the car seat and then soak them(do they even come all the way off?)? Any secret to getting stains out of these straps? Thanks in advance!

Re: Cleaning the straps on the Roundabout?

Some manufactors advise to use mild soap and air dry. However it is best to consult the manufactor for their suggestion on how to clean the harness straps for their seats.

I use dish soap...

The instructions say not to use "solvents, detergents or cleaning fluids as these may weaken the harnes and seat." Do use "mild soap and warm water." I unhook the straps from the back of the seat, but leave them attached to the front of the seat. Do NOT take the buckles off the straps! If you do that, you'll have to order a new harness. I put a bowl of warm water with a squirt of dish soap in the seat, and then put the straps in that to soak briefly. A tooth brush or wash cloth work fine for scrubbing them. I've never had trouble with stains using this method. The sun will help to naturally (and safely) bleach any stains out of the straps if you put them in a sunny place to dry.

You can remove the female end of the buckle from the seat and soak it in a bowl of warm water with dish soap for an hour to remove any dirt or food particles that may have found their way in there. Rinse and dry thoroughly.

All this should be in your instruction book. I don't have my RA instructions handy, but it's the very last thing in the instructions for my Freeway. If you lost the instructions, you can call Britax and order a new set. 1-888-4-BRITAX

Good morning, Robert! That's a good point...

That's an excellent point. I happened to have a Britax instruction manual handy, but if you don't know for *sure* what the manufacturer recommends, you should call their customer service line *before* you do anything to the seat. Using the wrong cleaner on your straps can weaken them so that the seat will not perform optimally in a crash. Taking parts off a seat that aren't supposed to come off can make the seat totally unusable. (Even if something seems to come off easily, the problem usually arises when you try to put whatever it was back on!) Britax, for example, allows its buckle to be soaked in water, while other manufacturers state that this is absolutely prohibited.

Materials used and manufacturing processes vary from company to company. Never assume that what one company recommends will work on another company's seat, and when in doubt, call the customer service line for your seat. :)

Thank you so much!

I wasn't going to remove the buckles or anything. I will just use a little dish soap and warm water then. Thanks!
