Volvo S80 with Cosco Alpha Omega?

Hi,

Has anyone tried the Cosco Alpha Omega on a 2001-2004 Volvo S80? I would be most interested in whether the seats incline properly on the S80 rear seat (many owners have needed towel rolls on their cars) and whether the size of the car seat causes any problems with the front seats of the car.

Any feedback will be most appreciated.

Check the compatibility database to see if anyone's posted compatibility for that seat and that car. It might be helpful to look for other Volvo entries besides just that model. In any case, as long as the installation is solid, a towel is permissible. Some people prefer the rolled towels because it somewhat protects the car's seat....at least at the bight.

Thanks, bazanna!

I checked that database for both the Cosco Alpha Omega and Cosco 3-in-1 before posting this. Neither had been used with a year 2001 and above Volvo, which is important since the platform has been redesigned.

There are a couple of entries about the seat being used with older Volvos, but both were tethered in the centre, whereas I though an outboard fitting using the LATCH and tether might be better.

LATCH isn't any safer than the seatbelt if you're using it correctly. A towel should only be used with a rearfacing seat and there are no Cosco seats that you can tether rearfacing.

Rearfacing seats sometimes present a space problem in just about any car...what many people do is put them in the center and then the seat can recline a bit between (and touching) the two front seats. It's fine for most carseats to do that as long as they don't exceed the maxiumum 45 degree recline. Using a rolled towel and the seatbelt system is just as safe and secure and using the LATCH system...and since most cars don't allow you to use the outboard LATCH bars for a center installation, it may be safer because statistically, kids fare better in crashes in a properly installed seat in the center position.

I own a AOE and after I got it home I checked the recline. Fully reclined in my living room, it doesn't recline to 45 degrees so I would doubt that it would install at 45 degrees in anyones car with out a noodle or towel.
