Which kind of seat?

Hi!

We have been reading a lot about car seats and are VERY confused about which to buy. We have a 2 year old (23lbs, 33 in), i.e. petite. She is still in a rear-facing convertible seat. We are expecting our second child who will be put in an infant carrier/seat. We just bought a 2003 Honda CRV with the LATCH system. We are planning to use her existing seat in my mom's car, so we need to buy another (LATCH compatible).

This is where we are confused. Should we look into another convertible? If so, which? Every site gives different information about a seat's safety. We have also considered a combo seat that might last longer. We were looking at the Britax Marathon, but still don't know if this is the right choice.

Any insight/advice you could give us would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi-

Your daughter will be safest for some time in a rear-facing convertible seat. The Britax Marathon you mentioned is one that may last the longest. Used correctly, most models with a 5-point harness will be very safe. Select one that fits your child and vehicle, and has enough convenience features that will help you use it correctly each time:)

If your daughter is already front-facing, then a combination model is also acceptable. Ulrike has some recommended models here: http://www.car-safety.org/carseats.html .

I hope that helps!

add me to the petite child list

Hi there,

My son will be 2 years old next month. He is also petite - 25 lbs FULLY dressed and about 33 inches tall. I have him rearfacing in a Britax Marathon, and that works very well for us. As Darren pointed out, your child will be much safer rear facing. If you are interested, there is a picture of my son rearfacing in his MA at the top and bottom of my website:
