Tandem stroller with car seat

This post has to do more with a stroller choice but it does involve a car seat so I'm hoping to get some help here.

We have a 16 month old toddler and another one on the way due in April and my wife is wanting a good lightweight two seater stroller which we can attach an infant seat to for the new one and allow our toddler to have a seat as well.

We already have a Peg Perego Aria stroller and have looked at the Prima Viaggio car seat, would you recommend to stay with the brand and get one of Peg Perego's tandem strollers and get their car seat, or would you suggest otherwise? Thank you.

Re: Tandem stroller with car seat

I don't think you can use an infant seat with the peg double stroller, check to make sure. To be honest however, I find the peg infant seat a pain to use so try before you buy. It is not compatible with a lot of cars. The Graco duo rider stroller can be used with an infant seat in either the front or the back seat (which I find very useful depending on whether or not my older child wants to sleep and needs the taller seat back to rest his head or is awake and wants to look at more than his sister)
Baby Trend also makes a double stroller that the latch loc infant seat fits on. the tender twin stroller has an attachment bar you can buy that fits several infant seats, but not the primo viaggo.

BTW, sorry for any typos, wiggling nine month old trying to help<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/smile.gif ALT=":)">

The Perego stroller does take a carseat, but I'd...

choose the carseat *first*, then worry about picking a stroller. The carseat has to protect your child's life in a car crash. The strolller is just for convenience. It is *critical* that the carseat fit your child & your vehicle and that you use it properly each and every time you go anywhere! You need to find a carseat that fits those criteria *first*.

Here is a buyer's guide for infant seats. www.cpsafety.com/articles...tshop.aspx And, here is a major review of many of the infant seats out there. boards2.parentsplace.com/...500/3.html

Personally, I'd look at the Graco SnugRide DX5 or LX5 first (the front harness adjuster is easier to use) or the Baby Trend LatchLoc/Pegasus (assuming your vehicle has LATCH) first.

For stroller recommendations, the ladies on the Stroller board at ParentsPlace.com are very knowledgeable (boards2.parentsplace.com/.../strollers ). Generally, side by side strollers are *MUCH* easier to steer than tandem strollers. Many parents want the convenience of a travel system type stroller, but overuse of the carseat outside of the car is not good for babies. The recommendation is to use the infant seat for no more than 20 min on either side of the car trip. This is both for the baby's physical health and for his/her mental development. Some babies experience breathing difficulties if they spend too much time in that semireclined position. Additionally, the over use of "containers" like carseats, cribs, swings, and strollers can cause or exacerbate Plagiocephaly. Plagiocephaly is the flattening of the baby's skull. Here is a post I wrote a few months back on Plagio and how to avoid it. boards2.parentsplace.com/.../50/2.html

Like I said, the ParentsPlace stroller board can make some specific recommendations.
