booster seat question

My little boy is 5 years old and about 42 pounds. He is still riding in a harnessed booster seat in the rear of the back seat. Is it safe for him to continue like this or should I move him to the bpb? I'm a little paranoid about him riding in the rear passenger seat rather than the middle. Thanks for any suggestions!

It depends on the seat and where you live.

If your son is in the Safety Baby/Nania Airway, then he can safely be harnessed to 50 lbs. All other harnessed combination seats in the US only go to 40 lbs., so you should immediately remove the harness and use it as a belt positioning booster. Because he's over the 40 lbs. limit, there's a possibility that the harness will fail in a crash if he's using it; therefore, the seat belt is safer.

Thanks

Thanks for the quick info. I've researched and bought the Cosco Summit HBB. I don't think the instruction manual was in my box. Am I correct that when using this seat as a belt positioning booster, you don't anchor the seat in any way? You just place it in the car and use the lap/shoulder belt. I just want to make sure I'm using it correctly!

Thanks so much for your help.

Cosco advises that you can not use the tether when using the booster as a belt positioning booster. If fact most of the belt positioning boosters dont allow the use of the tether.
