What's the best way....

to clean your carseat?

I have a Roundabout and over the years it's gotten kind of -well, I'm sure you all know! ;) LOL The most specific problem is that I think she must have spilled some milk and the very crease (where your bum goes) is kind of 'stiff' now (gross, I know... I didn't realize it until I took the cover off awhile back).

We're handing it down from my 3.5 year old to my little one soon and I'd like him to get as fresh of a start as possible! LOL

Any suggestions?

With the advice of the girls here, I just recently washed my MA for the first time. I used Woolite, put it in the gentle cycle, and then let it air dry. It went through perfectly coming out looking pretty spiffy :D

I know that some people have also put it on the 'air only' cycle in the dryer, since they were low on time. I just didn't need to since I had a full day to air dry it.

Yep, Woolite & Dreft are recommended ... I've washed/dried my covers a couple times & they've held up -- just make sure you do NOT submerge the harness straps in water ;)

I just take the entire cover, comfort foam, and harness off. I wash the seat shell in the shower and let it dry overnight. It have a front load washer so I wash my cover, and the foam with some towels in hot or warm water on the heavy cycle I put the straps in a mesh bag so they dont get tangled up. I dry on low and the seat is ready to go in the morning.

Good luck.

Lilsid---You're not supposed to put the straps into ANY washing machine. You should call Britax right away to order more straps. The machine puts too much stress on the straps and they may fail in an accident.

You guys ROCK! I knew you'd have the answer! ;)

Does the Woolite/Dreft work w/ any type of cover? We also have a Peg Perego infant carrier (which he's currently in) that I'd like to "spiff up". :)

Also: what IS the best way to wash the straps? Just wipe w/ a damp cloth?

Yes, please do replace your harness straps immediatley, Lilsid

Machine washing weakens the straps & causes them to stretch too much in a crash; they might even fray or rip in a crash :( Carseat manuals say a damp rag is acceptable for cleaning harness straps -- Britax customer service told me that using Dreft/Woolite on the damp rag is also OK ... I also asked it's alright that I've used peppermint oil to deodorize against puke stench & he said that isn't a specific problem that he knows of, but it's generally best not to use anything on them except a damp rag & Dreft/Woolite (so I replaced our straps) :) He specifically said that drink spills & occassional rain in the window is expected, but purposefully submerging the straps in water (with or without cleaning solution) is not safe

I don't know that different manufacturers have different recommendation for detergent when washing the covers ... but, check the manual & call the manufacturer for details
