Komfort Kruiser, cracked

Hello.

I've just left a message at Jupiter Industries, but I'm in need of help about my Komfort Kruiser boosters.

I have three of these, two routinely in my van, and one purchased to be in a friend's car for transport of my child. She also has one for her child. She calls last night to tell me that the foam on the head rests on both seats in her possession are cracked. I went and checked the seats in my van, and they are both cracked as well. It's a jagged crack, right where the EPS foam curves...on all the seats...

Is there a known defect on these seats? I'm having a hard time believing 4 seats would just break willy nilly, for no reason? These seats have not been abused, or had any issues like that....

Has anyone heard of this? Are the seats unsafe to use until I get replacements?

Help!

Jessica, mom to 4 in seats

Hello-

This model is made of EPS foam. This bicycle helmet grade foam may absorb more energy in a crash than a hard plastic shell. On the other hand, it may break more easily, too.

You will have to call Jupiter for answers to your questions.

If your child does not fit properly without a booster, it is probably better to continue to use your cracked booster than to use nothing at all. As long as the cracked portion does not interfere with the fit of the lap and shoulder belt, then it may be acceptable for temporary use until you can get a replacement.

Thanks...Jupiter called

I just spoke with Jupiter, and the rep said it was unusual to have all the seats cracked in this manner. She said that she suspected it was handling from the retailer, but that the seats had been tested with cracked EPS foam, and intact foam, and that both ways, it exceeded federal safety standards....

Their recommendation was that the seats were safe to use....but that for cosmetic reasons, they will replace all the foam headrests for me...She said as long as all foam is contained in the headrest binding, that the booster is safe and usable....cracked or not....

Things that make you go hmmmmmmm.....

Thanks for the help! I really like the seats, I'm just a little upset that they cracked.....

Boosters-

Boosters are a little different than harness seats. With a booster, the seatbelt system provides the restraint directly on the child, much like it does on an adult. The booster itself really does not provide any protection during the crash. The main purpose of the booster is to position the child correctly before the crash, so that the lap and shoulder belt fit properly.

The main ways a booster does this is simply by raising a child up with the base of the booster, and also by using a guide to properly position the shoulder belt. If both those things still work, then I agree that a cosmetic problem probably will not affect the safety of the seat. Of course, the manufacturer should be informed of any defect, so I'm glad you received a quick answer!

Komfort Kruiser - cracked

Hello...

I have just purchased two Komfort Kruiser booster seats. They were received (brand new in boxes - shipped direct from the manufacturer) and both are cracked.

I contacted the store who will replace them or credit my account....but, in the meantime I contacted Jupiter Industries.

Jupiter felt the shipper probably placed something heavy on the boxes that cracked the foam.

Jupiter has a Wonderful Customer Service Department. They stated the very same information given by Darren. They also advised they would replace any cracked foam for five years from the purchase of the seat. Be sure to save your receipt....you will need to prove date of purchase.

I really liked the seat. I sat my granddaughter in one and it was wonderful, so I am going to have the store ship replacements.

I am impressed with Jupiter's customer service and think this is an excellent seat.

Thanks for all the great information!
