Need some help

Hello, I'm brand new to this board. Someone linked me here in hopes I could get an answer to my question.

I visit an acquaintance today who has a child the same age as DS. They are 10 months old. We decide to go get something to eat and were going to take one car. She asks me to drive (no biggie) and goes to put her son's carseat in my car, and she puts it forward facing (biggie). Now granted, her son is light years ahead of mine physically ... he's walking, etc. But he's still only 10 months old.

So I ask her if she knows that they aren't supposed to be forward facing until 1 year and she blows me off and says something about him really liking to be forward facing. I was so shocked I couldn't say anything beyond explaining to her that it really wasn't safe for him to be forward facing. I went into the details of how the weight and the age were both requirements, not just one.

I know I probably should have been more forceful in insisting that he ride rear facing while in my car, but I sucked at the moment. I admit that.

Where can I find information that I can get to her about this and the hazards it can cause? Can any of you help me?

Thanks!

Here is all you need-

Please see our page on the benefits of rear-facing:

http://www.car-safety.org/rearface.html

At the bottom, you will also find links to other resources on the same topic.

Some people cannot be convinced no matter how forceful you are. In fact, the more forceful you are, the more they resent it. Unfortunately, they believe front-facing is some type of graduation as their kids get bigger. Some pediatricians even tell them that it is OK, even though the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends rear-facing as long as possible. So, kudos for trying and good luck if you try again!

I hope that helps!

I just wanted to thank you.

After receiving the information I sent my friend, she decided to turn his seat around. I'm very happy she came around.

Thanks again!
