Lap bar too tight on vanguard carseat

We recently purchased a century vanguard car seat. It's one that has the lap bar that comes down not the 5 point harness. When we buckle it in it seems the belt form the lap bar into the buckle is too short and presses down on his legs.. We have looked in the manual and don't see anyway to make it longer. I think its very uncomfortable for him cause he has started crying when we put him in it...Has anyone had the same experience or have any suggestions...??

I have not used this model-

Sorry I can't be of help on your specific problem. Many overhead shield seats do have harness systems that will not fit as well on the child as a 5-point system. If your son is under a year old or so, you may wish to consider a 5-point harness model anyway. Overhead shield seats are generally not recommended for infants, though they are usually acceptable for older toddlers.

I would highly recommend a visit to a trained child passenger safety technician. They may be able to help you adjust and install the seat properly, and usually free of charge. To find one near you, please visit our "Free Carseat Inspection" resource link under the top banner.
