Honda CRV and baby seats

Does anyone know what convertible car seat fits best in the 2002 Honda CRV, which comes equipped with the new LATCH system? My son is 5 1/2 months old but already nearly 20lbs and has pretty much outgrown his infant seat. I am faced with the problem of finding the best convertible seat which will accommodate him rearfacing until he is 1 year old without him flopping all over.

Thanks for any advice.

Re: Honda CRV and baby seats

Most convertible seats should fit fine. Just be sure to get a good return policy, and have it checked by a local technician first if you can't get a good fit. You can find one near you with our "Free Carseat Inpection" link under the top banner. You might also try our "Compatibility" link under the top banner to see if any other listings exist for recent CRV's.

Keep in mind that it is safest to keep your baby rear-facing longer than one year. Also see:

I've seen a picture of a Britax Marathon in the 2002 CR-V...

that is a HUGE seat (my 3 year old dd rearfaces in one in my 1999 CR-V), and if that seat can fit, I bet lots of other seats will fit, too.

Thanks guys!

I really appreciate your input and it's comforting Julie to know that you have one in your 99 CRV. I think the Marathon is the way to go. I had tried another Britax seat recently and it was so difficult to get the latches to hook and for the seat to sit firmly. It seemed that the space between the latches was not wide enough to accommodate the seat. Weird. Now that I've done a lot more research, I will go back and try again. I still have another 6 months at least of rear facing so will have to make sure I can live with it! <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/smile.gif ALT=":)">

As a follow up

Just wanted to let you know that I bought the Britax Marathon and am really really pleased with it. At first I wasn't sure about how easy the latches would be because on the 2002 Honda CRV they are quite well buried in the back of the seat. But but I took the seat to a trained tech who installed it so tight an earthquake wouldn't budge it. We have it installed behind the passenger right now as it is still reclined and there wasn't enough room for my hubbie or I to drive comfortably. (Soon we will be bringing the seat to an upright position (still rear facing) which will mean the seat can go behind the driver again.) We then attached the latch in the middle first then the one on the outside. The second one is harder to install as it gets so tight, hence us doing the outside one last so we could see what we were doing. She also showed me how to attach the top tether in the rear facing position. It's brilliant. It's such a soft, cushy seat too. I thoroughly recommend it. I really like the latch option, so much easier and firmer in the long run than lap belts etc.
